Blackfire Research & Cavium Networks Partner to Deliver SuperStreamHD Solutions for Next Generation Networked Media Systems
San Francisco, CA., January 03, 2011 – Blackfire Research, a company at the forefront of wireless and networked audio systems and Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, and the digital home, today announced a partnership to deliver integrated, low cost SuperStreamHD modules based on Blackfire Research’s SuperStreamHD technology and Cavium’s ECONA™ CNS3XXX family of high performance ARM processor platforms. These modules will enable OEM partners to lower the cost of integrating SuperStreamHD technology into their audio and video products.
Blackfire Research’s award-winning, patent pending media transport technology, SuperStreamHD, brings the power and flexibility of IP networking to audio systems. It consists of software for computers and smartphones and hardware modules built into audio components. SuperStreamHD makes it possible to play music to the stereo wirelessly from any networked computer and smartphone over Wi-Fi without connecting wires, dongles or docking stations.
Cavium Networks’ ECONA CNS3xxx family of ARM processors delivers a wide variety of highly integrated embedded SoC options at industry leading performance per dollar and performance per watt. These processors implement the ARM11 MPcore™ processor technology along with innovative hardware offload engines to provide gigabit-class performance under one watt with ample CPU processing headroom for customer applications.
“With the explosion of multi-media consumption in the connected home, meeting consumers’ expectations for an enjoyable user experience requires the ability to seamlessly process and manage multiple applications simultaneously and minimize service interruptions.” said Sridhar Gollapudi, Sr. Director of Marketing, Connected Home and Office Group at Cavium Networks. “This demands a flexible and scalable media transport technology such as Blackfire’s SuperStreamHD to be tightly integrated with a powerful and energy-efficient hardware platform such as the ECONA dual ARM processor family. This reference solution helps our OEM customers to deliver feature-rich, customized solutions by fully leveraging the hardware acceleration and processor capabilities packed into our ECONA family of processors targeting CE devices with rich audio processing capabilities.”
Blackfire Research will be showing SuperStreamHD technology at CES Booth # 25306 in January, 2011.
