D2 Technologies Collaborates with Freescale on Android-based Reference Design with HD Video Call Capability
First look at Freescale’s i.MX53 processor enhanced with D2’s mCUE® converged communications client is at the 2011 International CES in Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV (2011 International CES), Santa Barbara, CA and Austin, TX – January 6, 2011 — D2 Technologies, the market leader in embedded IP communications software platforms, is announcing the availability of a new multimedia processor/software solution based on i.MX technology from Freescale Semiconductor. The platform offers OEMs, ODMs and service providers a production-ready solution for devices delivering high definition voice and IP video calling features. Freescale’s i.MX53 multimedia application processor, paired with D2’s mCUE® converged communications client, creates an advanced platform for Android™-based devices such as tablets, IP media phones and connected TVs/STBs that deliver media-rich and communications applications with an optimized performance, cost and power consumption profile. This solution is interoperable with carrier and enterprise networks, as well as many popular social networking communications services such as Skype™, GoogleTalk and Yahoo! Messenger.
Visitors to this week’s 2011 International CES, being held January 6-9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, can get a first look at video calling over popular service provider and IM community networks using Android devices running D2’s mCUE on Freescale’s i.MX53 processor in a preview suite at the Las Vegas Hilton. To arrange a private demonstration, contact D2 Technologies.
“D2 is a market leader in developing field-proven, advanced IP communications frameworks for consumer devices operating on Android OS,” said Rajeev Kumar, i.MX and consumer marketing manager for Freescale’s Multimedia Applications Division. “By porting the mCUE software onto our i.MX53 processor family, D2 delivers a hardware and software platform that has up to 1.2 GHz of core speed for a more responsive user experience, particularly with high quality video calls, yet at one of the industry’s lowest rates of power consumption.”
Freescale’s i.MX535 processor is one of the newest members of Freescale’s highly integrated, power-efficient, ARM®- based consumer multimedia applications processor family. The i.MX535 supports 1080p multi-standard video playback, and leverages a common hardware and software platform with the i.MX51 processor to boost performance. The result is reduced development effort and faster time to market for OEMs, ODMs and service providers.
D2’s innovative mCUE converged communications client for Android provides users with unified access to all IP-based and legacy circuit-switched communications modes including VoIP calls, IP video chat/call, IM, presence, SMS, PBX, PSTN, cellular and more. Its revolutionary presence-based, push-to-x user interface, built on top of a multi-identity, multi-session, multi-protocol engine, enables flexible and proven interoperability with multiple communications services such as service provider core switches, enterprise IP PBXs and UC systems, and commercial IM and social networking services like GoogleTalk, Yahoo!, MSN, AIM and Skype. mCUE also provides multi-radio, multi-network seamless voice call handover to provide call cost and voice quality optimization.
“Consumers want more Android-based devices, and the introduction of a collaborative D2-Freescale solution that delivers not only converged communications but state-of-the-art video calling and multi-media capabilities helps OEMs get ahead of the adoption curve,” noted Doug Makishima, chief operating officer for D2 Technologies. “Freescale processors are known for their ultra-high performance and low power consumption. Together, we create an economical way for OEMs to get to market faster while spending less time on product development and more on product branding.”
