Faraday Announces High-Performance IQ ADC/DAC IP Solutions for Wireless Communications in 55nm
Hsinchu, Taiwan, 11 Jan., 2011 -- Faraday Technology Corporation (TAIEX: 3035) today announced its 55nm 12-bit 80MSPS IQ analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and IQ digital-to-analog converter (DAC) IPs. These IPs have been silicon proven, targeted at the baseband-RF interface of LTE, WIMAX, CDMA, and WLAN communication systems for both handset and infrastructure equipment.
The ADC/DAC IPs are becoming critical to communication and networking ASICs, and Faraday's newly-launched solution not only reaches a superior maximum sampling frequency of 80 MHz, but also delivers the 12-bit resolution capability. The IQ ADC adopts the pipelined architecture, fit for a wide range of high-resolution applications, and a single-clock input to control all internal conversion cycles. Further, the IQ ADC comes with digital calibration function for digital error corrections. The IQ DAC is a current-steering type with segmented architecture of seven thermo codes plus five binary codes. It is designed to minimize the glitch energy and DNL, thus provides excellent dynamic performance.
"As a turnkey service provider, Faraday designs the 12-bit 80MSPS IQ ADC/DAC IPs from both chip and system perspective," said Y.K. Tseng, Associate Vice President at Faraday. "Consisting of AFE or MIMO AFE with an auxiliary-ADC, an auxiliary-DAC, and a PLL, our solution is a great fit for communication applications. Besides, to minimize the system-BOM cost, we adopt approaches such as size-optimized LDO as part of the AFE sub-system, use reference-circuits that do not require off-chip capacitors, and design the ADC input interface directly onto RF chips. These IPs will effectively help our customers to achieve competitive costs," he added.
Availability
The 12-bit 80MSPS IQ ADC/DAC is available at UMC 55nm logic SP/RVT Low-K process.
To speed up customer's system development Faraday also provides a complete design kit, which includes datasheet, application note, silicon validation report, physical design database, behavioral model, LVS netlist, timing model, and evaluation board.
