Sankalp Opens a New Hybrid Center
Analog Design Center— Kolkata, India
January 31st, 2011 -- Sankalp Semiconductor has decided to open a new hybrid center in East India. It will have an Analog Design Center in Sector-V, Kolkata which is the IT-hub of Kolkata and boasts of companies like IBM, Wipro, Cognizant, TCS, etc. Around 100,000 engineers are employed by the IT sector here. It is about 15 minutes drive from the international airport. As an add on to our Sector V center we will have another facility on campus at Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) , Shibpur. This facility will focus on Characterization work and training through our Eklakshya arm. This decision is in line with Sankalp’s vision to have multiple centers across the nation to create jobs and access the best talent available. Bengal University is a prestigious college and is now being re-launched as IIEST (Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology). According to Mrinal Das, VP of Engineering “the new center should grow to 30 engineers by 2012 and will play a crucial role in Sankalp’s growth. Historically jobs in high-tech semiconductor design have been centered mostly on Bangalore and to some extent Delhi/Hyderabad. However there is a large engineering talent pool in Eastern states which have high capability for semiconductor design.”
Sankalp already has a 30 people team working on the campus of IIT Kharagpur, its first presence in East India. IIT-K and IIEST center will act as a deep foundation for further scalability of the design team. Analog & Mixed Signal (AMS) Design is a niche and large market in semiconductor domain. In this industry it’s very difficult to have a scalable AMS team, key bottleneck being the quality of engineering talent.
It’s a unique opportunity for Sankalp to be present in IITK and IIEST , two institutes of national importance, and be an enabler for a larger electronic ecosystem in the region. Our new site will also host a team of Eklakshya, which is our sister concern. Eklakshya’s focus is to provide high quality differentiated training for students from the region and also enable research for next generation.
Prajit Nandi, AMS Design Manager believes in the engineering talent available at BESU and is very enthusiastic about the growth prospects for his division.
Candidates willing to join our IIEST center please send your resumes to career@sankalpsemi.com
About Sankalp Semiconductor
Sankalp Semiconductor is an AMS semiconductor design service provider that provides services to some of the largest semiconductor companies in the world. Sankalp was founded in 2005 by a team of industry experts. Sankalp’s mission is to create a world-class technology hub of mixed-signal semiconductor services and solutions . There are three key aspects by which the mission is being accomplished. First, work from second tier cities of India, which provides a balanced life-work environment allowing energy to be spent on deep technical issues. Second, attract proven technical leaders with entrepreneurial zeal to join Sankalp as partners, giving them complete freedom to define their own destiny. Third, work closely with some of the topmost colleges in the country by being physically close to the college campus – this takes care of scalability and forward looking ecosystem creation across diverse job domains. In recent years Sankalp has strengthened its position in the industry and employs 120 Sankalpites at multiple sites.
