DMAP and MoreThanIP Announce a strategic partnership on D0-254 Ethernet technology for safety-critical systems
Meyreuil, France, and Karlsfeld, Germany, February 23rd, 2011 - DMAP and MoreThanIP today announced a strategic partnership to make available MoreThanIP’s intellectual property/cores with DO-254 certification package.
The picture is clear: avionics industry is becoming more and more depending of complex embedded systems. In particular, the needs expressed in the segment of the electronics are growing and require finding new means in the choice of implementation. The needs of sustainable solutions to long-term (>25 years) a specificity of aeronautic market leads naturally to the desire to control the content of each system, particularly strategic components that are processor and their peripherals, but also associated functions such as communications interfaces. Recent developments around FPGA devices can consider them as an industrial solution compliant with the requirements of the avionic industry while giving access to complex objects.
The cost, time and skills needed to develop more and more complex systems require new solutions based on the integration of IP blocks, it's the only way to optimize and rationalize this kind of project. It is generally accepted that reusing semiconductor IP blocks in a core-based design strategy is the most suitable response to the stringent constraints involved in SoC and complex block design.
This partnership enables the introduction in the mil-aero market of the MoreThanIP technology, from 10/100/1000 Ethernet MAC to the latest FibreChannel cores generation. “With this agreement MoreThanIP is now able to provide its know-how and products to the mil-aero industry with the help of the DO-254 expertise of DMAP Team” said François Balay, CEO of MoreThanIP.
DMAP and MoreThanIP are now able to address customers needs for Ethernet IPs in a DO-254 environment. The DMAP team has started to upgrade the 10/100/1000 MAC product to a DO-254 DAL A level, including fault-tolerant techniques to ensure enough robustness for mil-aero safety-critical systems.
“For DMAP, this partnership is a continuation of its strategy to create a privileged link with major IP providers, leaders in their area. After PCI Express technology, now the Networking IP library of MoreThanIP is available for civil avionic applications and other domains where high reliability IP products is mandatory […] This partnership opens future collaboration on avionic specific buses as AFDX” explains James Bezamat, CEO of DMAP.
Given the increasing pressure from reduced time-to-market, high complexity, difficulty in carrying out exhaustive controls of non-functioning cases, final cost reduction, etc., it is hardly surprising that design-for-reuse has become a source of revenue for hundreds of IP vendors worldwide, and one of the key productivity boosters in the semiconductor industry.
But for specific markets such aerospace where high reliability is mandatory major IP vendors often do not spend time to reach DO-254 compliance.
That's why DMAP close the gap between IP vendors which want to address new markets and companies from such domains which want to speed up their product development with the assurance of DO-254 conformity.

About DMAP
DMAP is a company focused on high reliability semiconductor application domains. DMAP has been founded in 2009 by two highly skilled engineers in the semiconductor area. With more than 40 years of experience we are able to combine IP and SoC development for ASIC and FPGA target with high reliability methods provided by the DO-254 guidance. High reliable domains as aeronautic, medical, defense and space like others mass markets are sensible to time-to-market constraints and a growing system complexity, that's why we offer to IP vendors the opportunity to address new markets and to high reliable sub-contractor community to buy DO-254 ready IP to speed up their development.
