Design And Reuse Launches at DATE2002 IP Supply Chain: a powerful environment for Intranet IP based SoC Design
March 5, 2002 - D&R announces at DATE'02 the launching of IP Supply Chain, a comprehensive and unique intranet IP management toolset following the IP versions from the design centers to IP distribution servers and up to the management system for IP based SoC projects.
Starting form the IP design center, an "Export" action using the so-called "e_Design Manager" module describes the characteristics of an IP version through XML encapsulated information and makes it available to the IP catalog user. Upon user request the files are exported from the design server which is possibly a configuration server such as a CVS server to the user site possibly via an IP distribution server.
IP distribution or download for users is made under the control of the central IP management server hosting the IP catalog and its related functions through the software called IP Manager SeriesT, which has already been released by D&R for 2 years. Note that following a user request the IP version files or the incremental delta only or specific deliveries are downloaded to the user site and this is performed under the control of a proprietary access management module.
Finally a SoC designer can select and import IP versions and configure a SoC project through a SoC management module (SoC Manager SeriesT). This powerful SoC Management module aims at identifying and selecting silicon IP versions as well as soft IP versions or any versioned component that are used as SoC components. Thus it performs a second level of management providing an innovative hierarchical management infrastructure.
These bridging mechanisms exporting files from a module and then importing into the next module of the e-delivery chain are based on the innovative D&R XML-tagging based technologies. The e-design management software is written in Java application client/server RMI while IP Managers Series T and SoC Manager Series are written as Java Servlets for allowing intranet browsing.
As announced earlier, D&R is also offering extended services of this IP supply chain for creating private intranet catalogs for large corporations where accurate data possibly confidential are provided by suppliers. This service concerns an innovative IP import portal external to the firewall where an IP provider can describe its IPs and the XML IP metadata are then automatically transferred to the intranet catalog of the IP provider at the format being defined by the destination corporation through a XML DTD (documentation type definition).
