Evatronix Develops MIPI SLIMbus IP To Help LnK Introduce their New Product - I2S to SLIMbus Audio Bridge
Update: Cadence Completes Acquisition of Evatronix IP Business (Jun 13, 2013)
Evatronix provides the I2S IP core and develops elements of the MIPI SLIMbus IP suite to power the innovative SLIMbus-I2S Audio Bridge from LnK.
Bielsko-Biala/Poland and Romsée/Belgium, October 10th, 2011 - Evatronix SA, the provider of robust memory controller IP, and LnK, the leading provider of test and verification solutions for SLIMbus, have announced today the successful implementation of MIPI SLIMbus and I2S IP cores in the new I2S-SLIMbus Audio Bridge from LnK. The LnK’s SLIMbus Audio Bridge is the essential link between any SLIMbus audio components and traditional audio analyzers like Audio Precision, Rohde&Schwartz and others.
The SLIMbus Audio Bridge from LnK features S/PDIF and multichannel I2S input/output interfaces. The device can also be used as an autonomous SLIMbus component to test Application Engines, and, of course, as the demo device of the capabilities of SLIMbus audio components to potential customers.
“LnK Audio Bridge is a very smart tool that enables efficient validation of MIPI SLIMbus standard and facilitates the switch from less efficient I2S standard protocol. We are happy to have contributed with development of the IP subsystem necessary for the Audio Bridge.” said Marcin Zys, Multimedia Controllers Product Line Manager at Evatronix.
For the LnK project, Evatronix have customized and integrated two SLIMbus components – Device and Framer as well as the I2S IP core. The final SoC implemented three SLIMbus device classes - Interface, Framer and Generic Device, and had I2S interfaces for data ports instead of generic parallel interface.
“When it was about testing chipset functionalities using the SLIMbus interface, no tools were available yet. We have been asked by one of our lead customers to provide such a tool, but the challenge was quite big: we had about 3 months to design everything (IP, software and hardware). We obviously had to outsource some of the activities. Out of the few IP providers capable of developing robust SLIMbus IP, Evatronix seemed to be the one to go with. In less than 2 weeks, the contract was nailed down. Two months later, a customized and functional IP was delivered to us and after two weeks of product integration activities, the final product was ready to be shipped to our customer. The impossible dead line was met… This has only been made possible by the full commitment and very high degree of professionalism of Evatronix and LnK. We have found a very reputable partner sharing our views on how fair business shall be conducted.” said Xavier Lambrecht, Managing Director of LnK.
The SLIMbus IP developed by Evatronix has been tested by LnK engineers and only very few minor issues were found on the initial delivery, proving the high quality of the design. The intensive SLIMbus compliance testing ran by LnK allowed to detect and fix the minor issues, making this IP as compliant as it is possible to be.
“With the SLIMbus Audio Bridge, we now have an outstanding and really versatile tool. Evatronix has delivered a high quality IP, fully validated and truly compliant. Used in conjunction with our SLIMbus Protocol Analyzer and Traffic Generator, the SLIMbus Audio Bridge will offer to our customers an unprecedented way of validating their SLIMbus designs and even go further in interoperability tests.” said Johan Klewais, Chief Technology Officer at LnK.
EVATRONIX IP on Demand DESIGN SERVICES
Evatronix offers application designers a unique IP on Demand service, under which we can either provide IP according to the specification, or create new IP given only its final functionality requirements.
The IP on Demand design service gives the customer total control over IP development. Product specification, project schedule and the list of requested deliverables are prepared in tight interaction with the customer in order to fully meet his needs and fit the amount and pace of work into his design flow.
LnK AUDIO BRIDGE AVAILABILITY
The SLIMbus Audio Bridge is available now to all MIPI Alliance Member companies.

ABOUT The MIPI® Alliance
The Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MIPI®) Alliance is an open membership organization that includes leading companies in the mobile industry that share the objective of defining and promoting specifications for interfaces in mobile terminals. MIPI Specifications establish standards for hardware and software interfaces between the processors and peripherals typically found in mobile terminal systems. By defining such standards and encouraging their adoption throughout the industry value chain, the MIPI Alliance intends to reduce fragmentation and improve interoperability among system components, benefiting the entire mobile industry.
