AuthenTec Extends Content Protection Offerings with Solution Suite for HDCP
- New HDCP2.1-compliant Offering Enables Secure Streaming of Premium Content via Wired and Wireless Connections
- Company Granted HDCP License by Digital Content Protection, LLC
MELBOURNE, Fla., February 21, 2012 –AuthenTec (NASDAQ: AUTH), a leading provider of mobile and network security, today introduced a new content protection offering for High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) that enables consumers to share high definition and high value content among multiple devices. AuthenTec’s new offering is compatible with the latest HDCP2.1 specification and protects delivery of premium content between transmitter devices (consumer tablets, smartphones, game consoles, PCs, set-top boxes) and receiver devices (TVs, projectors, monitors). The Company will be demonstrating its new HDCP offering for customers and prospects at next week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (Hall 3.1, HS 174).
AuthenTec’s newest content protection solution enables semiconductor and appliance vendors to implement a complete HDCP2.1 solution into silicon and consumer devices. It supports integration into a highly secure implementation by protecting all of the encryption keys and secure computations. The security module of the HDCP2.1 protocol is available on a TrustZone-based software platform or as a dedicated, highly secure and optimized hardware module.
“Our new solution suite for HDCP extends our offering of end-to-end content protection,” said Dr. Simon Blake-Wilson. “AuthenTec’s content protection offerings are deployed by customers like HBO and Sky Deutschland, and our new HDCP offering extends the same level of reliability to the secure delivery of content from source devices to displays.”
AuthenTec’s solution is comprised of the following hardware IP and software components:
- SafeXcel EIP-115: Dedicated HDCP hardware engine that protects keys and sensitive operations and accelerates encryption and decryption operations to enable protection of uncompressed and compressed, full HD content. SafeXcel EIP-115 works seamlessly with AuthenTec’s existing SafeXcel packet engines and SafeZone secure platform offerings. These hardware offerings enable chip makers to enhance their products to support the latest HDCP standards.
- DRM Fusion Agent/HDCP: The HDCP solution can operate in pure software mode or integrated into a protected stand-alone software environment. In other applications, the secure part of the HDCP solution can run inside a TrustZone-based secure environment or inside the SafeXcel EIP-115 hardware module. This software offering enables maximum flexibility and security to handset, set-top box, and TV manufacturers.
Interoperability is crucial to successful deployment of HDCP. To ensure compliance with the HDCP2.1 specification, AuthenTec has been granted an HDCP license by Digital Content Protection (DCP), LLC, an organization that licenses technologies for protecting premium commercial entertainment content. AuthenTec’s new DRM Fusion Agent/HDCP has been fully tested and complies with the HDCP2.1 specification, significantly reducing time-to-market for customers.
The HDCP specification was developed by Intel Corporation to protect digital entertainment content across multiple interfaces including IP-based connections. It provides a robust, cost-effective and transparent method for transmitting and receiving digital entertainment content to digital displays via wireless connections such as Wi-Fi, WHDI, WirelessHD and wired connections such as USB, Ethernet, DiiVA, HDMI and DVI. HDCP has broad industry support from the major players in the digital entertainment value chain, including major motion picture studios such as The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros., and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
“We welcome AuthenTec as an HDCP licensee,” said Stephen Balogh, President of DCP, LLC.“Over a billion interfaces have incorporated HDCP to date, and we are pleased that security providers such as AuthenTec are working on HDCP solutions to help satisfy the growing demand for robust premium content delivery and distribution.”
AuthenTec’s DRM Fusion Agent supports HDCP, Microsoft PlayReady, Windows Media DRM, Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and DECE UltraViolet standards. The Agent is available as a downloadable application for both Android and Apple iOS-based smartphones and tablets. As an embedded solution, it is available on Android and many other embedded platforms for mobile phones, set-top boxes and other OEMs. AuthenTec also offers an end-to-end media security solution through its DRM Fusion Server for carriers and network service providers. AuthenTec’s DRM Fusion Server handles the entire DRM process from content protection, rights creation, rights and condition management to license generation and delivery.
AuthenTec’s mobile and network security solutions include embedded and downloadable DRM content protection, mobile VPN client solutions, platform security to protect against hardware and software attacks, hardware IP for protocol and crypto acceleration, identity management software, and smart fingerprint sensors.
