MediaTek and ARM Extend Relationship with Access Agreement for a Broad Range of the Latest ARM IP
Access to the most advanced ARM Mali-T600 Series GPUs, advanced CPU Cores and System IP for the latest smart system designs, such as smartphones and smart-TVs
Cambridge, UK and Hsinchu, Taiwan – February 23, 2012 – ARM and MediaTek Inc. today announced an extension to their long-standing relationship with a new MediaTek license for a broad range of market leading, high-performance ARM Intellectual Property (IP). This includes energy-efficient ARM® Mali™ Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), ARM Cortex™ processors and ARM System IP for use in smartphones, smart-TVs and Blu-ray players. MediaTek will also be extending its existing license with ARM for the Mali-400 MP GPU used in many of today’s leading mainstream smartphonesand smart-TVs.
Used together, the latest Mali-T600 SeriesGPUs and advanced CPUswill enable MediaTek to offer advanced System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for mobile devices, such as superphones, based on the latest ARM graphics and GPU compute capabilities and a CPU paradigm that will redefine the traditional power and performance relationship. ARM System IP is particularly beneficial to developers of multicore GPU / CPU SoCs where bus interconnect technology is key to achieving the best performance and optimal efficiency.
"MediaTek is focused on providing solutions that address the demand for high-performance connected devices, such as mass market smartphones," commented Mr. Jeffrey Ju, general manager of smartphone business, MediaTek. "Our partnership with ARM has already enabled many device manufacturers to leverage our high-performance, energy-efficient SoCs into many of these successful, mainstream devices. We look forward to extending our relationship to develop the next generation of wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions based on the latest ARM IP."
"Future consumer electronics devices, such as smartphones and smart-TVs, must satisfy consumer demand for an outstanding user experience that brings their world to their fingertips," said Mike Inglis, executive vice president and general manager, processor division, ARM. "ARM is working closely with partners, such as MediaTek, to make this a reality by bringing visual computing to life with the latest GPU technology and by providing applications processors that are both energy-efficient and able to deliver the highest performance. We are excited to see the fruits of this agreement as MediaTek enable the next generation of consumer devices using advanced ARM IP."
