Cut Down Silicon Cost with SWORD - the Single Wire Debugging Solution from Evatronix
Update: Cadence Completes Acquisition of Evatronix IP Business (Jun 13, 2013)
The new Single Wire On-chip Rapid Debugging (SWORD) interface decreases silicon pad usage by the factor of 4 compared to JTAG.
Bielsko-Biala/Poland, March 7th, 2012 - The silicon intellectual property (IP) provider Evatronix SA announced today a completely new addition for its 8051 microcontroller IP core. The Evatronix SWORD introduces a single wire connection between the microcontroller and the debugging interface as the least expensive and most effective application debugging solution.
The SWORD interface is designed for applications where 4 pads required by JTAG are not welcome. The SWORD makes no sacrifice as for functional completeness provided by a JTAG-based solution.
The SWORD is a part of the Evatronix EASE-8051 debugging environment for the R8051XC2 microcontroller from Evatronix. Since the controller has so far supported the JTAG connectivity option, the designer now has a choice of a debugging interface to suit his needs.
“Our customers need the most effective solutions in all aspects of an SoC design, and the SWORD is our answer to their needs in the field of silicon area efficiency,” said Maciej Pyka, 8051 Product Line Manager at Evatronix. “You can’t go less than one wire, and you can’t be more efficient than with our SWORD.”
ABOUT THE EVATRONIX EASE-8051
The EASE-8051 is a complete debugging solution that is based on the 8051 core’s built-in On Chip Debug Support module that uses a JTAG or SWORD interface to communicate with the Evatronix Debug Pod – a hardware component that transfers the data to the PC via the USB cable. A proprietary IDE plug-in, named Evatronix Debug Interface, handles the communication between the Keil™ debug environment and target CPU cores. The whole system is user-friendly, with straightforward setup and a wide range of features.
