Update: Synopsys Expands Security Solutions with Acquisition of Elliptic Technologies (June 29, 2015)
Joint Effort to bring Premium Content on Android Phones, Tablets and Smart TVs
April 25, 2012 – Ottawa, Canada and Seoul, Korea: SK Planet, a global platform innovator and subsidiary of SK Telecom, has formed a strategic partnership with Elliptic Technologies, a leading supplier of content protection software and security semiconductor IP, to enable robust security for High Definition (HD) video streaming on connected devices such as smartphones, tablets and connected TVs.
Elliptic's field proven tVault HDCP 2.1 content protection solution incorporates the stringent robustness requirements mandated by the Digital Content Protection (DCP) licensing authority. The tVault HDCP 2.1 uses Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) and enforces the protection of sensitive information to ensure that it is stored, processed and accessed only by authorized applications. The tVault HDCP 2.1 can act as a transmitter, receiver or repeater device, runs efficiently in very limited resource environments and is available on Android and other embedded platforms for consumer electronics.
Elliptic and SK Planet have collaborated to move HD streaming media technology forward on fully featured 4G Android handsets from a world leading manufacturer. Content protection is provided by tight integration of HDCP 2.1 security with a Korean developed Secure OS on an ARM TrustZone™ based processor. The two companies have more exciting projects in the works for the wireless display and home media streaming applications.
SK Planet is using the TrustZone technology on device security platforms targeted at smartphones, tablets, STBs and Smart TVs. Another area of focus for SK Planet covers personal information, media, enterprise and finance security services using TrustZone with Secure OS in conjunction with a TrustZone-enabled administration server.
"We are very pleased to be collaborating with Elliptic Technologies to enable robust content protection security in ARM TrustZone enabled smart devices and thus offering unparalleled opportunities for streaming and sharing HD premium content from anywhere at any time," said Hoo-Jong Kim, Head of Global Technology Research Institute of SK Planet.
