Silicon Image Announces Approved Module Program for 60GHz WirelessHD Products Targeting Consumer Video Applications
Silicon Image GameChanger™ Reference Platform modules now available from multiple ODM suppliers
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--August 28, 2012-- Silicon Image (NASDAQ: SIMG), a leading provider of wireless and wired HD connectivity solutions, today announced the launch of the Approved Module Program (AMP) which offers qualified original device manufacturers (ODMs) access to the Silicon Image GameChanger™ Reference Platform designs for the fastest path to volume production of WirelessHD® standard-compliant products. AMP partners can manufacture both standard modules and complete wireless products based on Silicon Image's third-generation 60GHz wireless chipset (SiI6310/20/21). Designed for high-quality, ultra-low latency HD video applications, these system level solutions provide all of the functionality needed to develop complete WirelessHD products.
Qualified ODMs participating in the Approved Module Program receive a complete design package including hardware component bill-of-materials, production ready firmware, detailed schematics and related documentation. Program participants also benefit from USA (FCC), Japan (UL Japan), EU (CE/ETSI), and Canada (Industry Canada) regulatory certifications, and other regional regulatory certifications as they become available. In addition, the program offers HDMI® and WirelessHD certification pre-testing of the module reference design, with minimal additional testing required to deliver fully certified products.
"Silicon Image's 60GHz wireless solutions are designed to meet the WirelessHD specification, the leading technology for interactive, high-definition wireless video connectivity," said Jim Chase, marketing director for wireless products at Silicon Image. "Members of the Approved Module Program can quickly develop products to sell at the component level to original equipment manufacturers, or build value-added products themselves with minimal investment in certifications and regulatory testing."
Network communications company Askey Computer Corporation and wireless connectivity and image processing company AzureWave Technologies have joined the Approved Module Program to take advantage of the turn-key design solution offered by the Silicon Image GameChanger Reference Platform.
"With the Silicon Image GameChanger Reference Platform, Silicon Image has provided a great tool to help us win new business in WirelessHD-focused markets," said Tommy Lin, director for research and development at Askey Computer Corporation. "The documentation and support provided through the Approved Module Program has been critical to our early market success."
"We are delighted to be part of Silicon Image's Approved Module Program which benefits customers with cost-effective and fast time-to-market implementation," said Ted Lee, chief executive officer of AzureWave Technologies, Inc. "We have extensive expertise in 60GHz WirelessHD product development and with the AMP program we look forward to the more widespread market adoption of this technology. We are committed to offering tailored product solutions and value-added services to customers seeking this advanced 60GHz solution."
