Aquantia Acquires 10GBASE-T Assets From PLX Technology
Combines the Best Two Engineering Teams in the Business, Solidifies Market Leadership
MILPITAS, CA – September 17, 2012 – Aquantia, the leader in High Speed Ethernet connectivity solutions for cloud computing and large scale data center deployments, announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire PLX Technology Inc.’s 10GBASE-T assets, including its product and patent portfolios. PLX’s 10GBASE-T product and intellectual property assets were built from PLX’s acquisition of Teranetics, Inc. in October 2010. PLX Technology’s list of 10GBASE-T customers includes large Data Center switching and server OEMs, with such brand names as Arista Networks, Cisco and Intel. As a result of the acquisition, Aquantia’s combined list of customers is larger than all its competitors combined, placing Aquantia as the number one leader in this market.
“10GBASE-T is witnessing a tremendous uptick in its adoption in large-scale data centers following the launch of the Romley server platforms on March of 2012. A broad base of Server OEMs have begun shipping products with LANOn- Motherboard (LOM) and other form factors, while most switch platforms are shipping very high density 10GBASE-T interfaces,” says Faraj Aalaei, president and CEO of Aquantia. “This acquisition solidifies Aquantia as the predominant leader in this expanding market.”
A significant number of PLX’s engineers will join Aquantia, conjointly with the closing of the transaction, resulting in the formation of the most formidable engineering team and collection of talents on 10GBASE-T in the industry. The impressive PLX patents portfolio in 10GBASE-T and related technologies is transferred to Aquantia, solidifying an already robust patent portfolio of Aquantia’s own.
”Aquantia is the best home for this business. They are the leader in this space and will seamlessly support our customer base while offering a compelling product roadmap for the future,” stated Ralph Schmitt, president and CEO of PLX Technology. “Their total dedication to this market makes them the technology leader. In combination with the PLX Ethernet team, this is the most talented group in the market.”
