Tality to Demonstrate Advanced 802.11 Solution at Networld+Interop
Offering Accelerates WiFi for The Mass Market
San Jose, CA. - April 30, 2002 - Tality Corporation today announced that it will demonstrate its 802.11 technology at Networld+Interop in Las Vegas, May 7-9. The demonstration will show Tality's FPGA-implemented dual-mode IEEE802.11 MAC fully integrated into the Windows® operating system. Tality's MAC combined with its 802.11a/802.11b modem designs, world-class short range wireless system design expertise, and experience implementing highly integrated RF IC solutions for 802.11, offers customers an accelerated path to bringing WiFi products to market.
"The demonstration of our 802.11 MAC represents a key milestone in our IP development roadmap," said Michael Barkway, director of Short Range Wireless for Tality. "Our track record in 802.11 and other wireless standards is second to none, reinforcing our leadership in the wireless IP market. Tality's MAC is months ahead of our nearest competitor and has unique features and capabilities that will ensure it retains its market leading position," added Barkway.
The Tality solution consists of a synthesizable core and protocol stack for the implementation of 802.11a, 802.11b and dual mode systems. The design, which is suitable for both embedded and hosted applications, was developed from the ground up as a highly optimized, deeply integrated system, designed for maximum data throughput with minimum processor load and chip power consumption. The Tality MAC is modular and has a highly flexible architecture, enabling rapid modification to conform to evolutions in the 802.11 specification. The design already supports dual mode 802.11a/802.11b functionality and has been verified at proprietary rates of 108Mbits/sec and beyond. Tality will shortly sign-up its fifth licensee for this technology and its lead customer is days away from silicon.
Tality's licensees can benefit from a highly integrated and feature-rich solution, including the IP cores, an ARM-based platform, CardBus/PCI interface, pre-integrated protocol software and a Windows driver. The maturity and completeness of the Tality solution offers real time-to-market advantages today with a roadmap to future variants. Tality is now adapting its unique MAC architecture to add key Quality of Service, Security and other features as a part of a long-term roadmap, keyed into the development of the 802.11 standards. "While our competitors play catch-up, we are able to offer customers a development roadmap built on real achievement," said Barkway.
