Elliptic Technologies Delivers Hardware-assisted Premium Content Protection on Mobile and Home Entertainment Devices
Update: Synopsys Expands Security Solutions with Acquisition of Elliptic Technologies (June 29, 2015)
October 31, 2012 – Ottawa, Canada: Elliptic Technologies, a leading supplier of content protection and embedded security solutions, has announced that it is driving the adoption of system-wide, hardware-assisted security solutions for streaming high definition (HD) content on connected devices.
Elliptic has partnered with Trusted Logic Mobility, a leading supplier of security solutions for mobile and connected devices, to create a state-of-the-art content protection technology provided through the tight integration of tVault™ HDCP 2.1 with the Trusted Foundations™ security solution on Android tablets from a world leading manufacturer. The solution leverages hardware enforced security based on the ARM ® TrustZone® secure hardware architecture, trusted execution environments (TEE) and targets applications such as HD Video-on-Demand, Over-The-Top and IPTV.
Mobile and home entertainment devices including smartphones, tablets and digital TVs, are revolutionizing premium video consumption by providing impressive high-resolution screens and capabilities that take the video consumption experience to a whole new level. This in turn offers unparalleled opportunities to OEMs and service providers to bring to market a variety of new applications and services. Premium content security for these devices is undergoing a similar revolution. Sophisticated, system-wide embedded security solutions are imperative to be integrated into connected devices from the chip level through to the applications that run on them, without compromising the user experience.
“Video-on-demand is huge and growing fast,” said Olivier Leger, General Manager of Trusted Logic Mobility. “Elliptic’s solution, which incorporates our top-notch security, provides the secure solution that propels device manufacturers to the forefront of this lucrative market.”
Vijay Dube, President and CEO of Elliptic Technologies, commented: “I am very pleased with our close collaboration with an industry leader such as Trusted Logic Mobility. Their established secure software together with Elliptic’s advanced tVault HDCP technology have created a complete and highly efficient TEE-based content protection solution that enables a great viewing experience while keeping the premium content very secure.”
Both companies have solutions compliant with GlobalPlatform specifications and endorse standards-based security based on TEE environments as the primary route for mass deployment of applications and services across all connected devices.
Trusted Foundations™ is Trusted Logic Mobility’s hardware-software security architecture that stores, processes, and protects sensitive data in a dedicated zone, based on the ARM® TrustZone® chipset architecture which provides an isolated hardware area. This security architecture follows an industry standard known as Trusted Execution Environment (TEE).
Elliptic’s tVault HDCP 2.1 incorporates the stringent robustness requirements mandated by the Digital Content Protection (DCP) licensing authority and integrates within wireless video stacks such as Miracast for Wi-Fi Display (WFD). The solution runs efficiently in very limited resource environments and is available on Android and other embedded platforms.
