Silicon Image MHL Solution Deployed in Roku Streaming Stick
Low-Power MHL Technology Supports New Streaming Device
SUNNYVALE, Calif.-- November 12, 2012 -- Silicon Image (NASDAQ: SIMG), a leading provider of HD connectivity solutions, today announced that its SiI8334 MHL® (Mobile High-Definition Link) transmitter has been designed into the Roku Streaming Stick™, a wireless product that plugs into the MHL port of Roku Ready® devices to seamlessly deliver Roku's growing collection of high-definition (HD) streaming entertainment including video, music and games. The Roku Streaming Stick leverages the key features of MHL technology, including 1080p uncompressed video with up to eight channels of digital audio, concurrent power, and remote control functionality provided by the Roku Ready device.
"MHL technology allows the Roku Streaming Stick to be completely cordless and fully integrates the streaming functionality into the consumer electronics device making the user experience even simpler for the consumer," said Jim Funk, senior vice president of product management at Roku. "Plugged into a Roku Ready device, the Roku Streaming Stick offers instant access to movies, TV shows, live sports, music, games and more from over 600 entertainment channels available on the Roku platform."
The Roku Streaming Stick features Silicon Image's SiI8334 MHL transmitter for HD audio and video. Designed for consumer electronics devices, the SiI8334 transmitter enables the Roku Streaming Stick to provide HD video and audio simultaneously while getting power from a Roku Ready device, thus eliminating the need for an external power supply or cables.
"MHL technology and the Roku Streaming Stick are enabling an optimized HD entertainment experience for today's consumers," said Tim Vehling, vice president of product marketing at Silicon Image, Inc. "The Roku Streaming Stick is the latest innovative product in the growing ecosystem of MHL-enabled devices which includes smartphones, tablets, DTVs, monitors, AV receivers, and projectors."
