CSR Bluetooth Smart Technology Powers New LG One Key Wireless Remote
CSR µEnergy® Chip Provides Bluetooth Low Energy Connectivity for LG Optimus® VU2 Accessory
Cambridge, UK and Sunnyvale CA, USA -- Nov. 20, 2012 -- CSR plc (LSE: CSR; NASDAQ: CSRE) today announced that CSR µEnergy®, its low energy technology for Bluetooth® Smart connectivity, is at the heart of the new One Key wireless smartphone remote control from LG Electronics. An accessory for LG’s new flagship Android® smartphone, the Optimus VU2 is an LG One Key remote that delivers a number of innovative capabilities and relies on the CSR1000™ single-mode Bluetooth low energy solution to achieve Bluetooth Smart wireless connectivity.
“The LG One Key remote control is a perfect example of the kind of mobile accessory innovation made possible by our leading µEnergy™ platform, giving LG a complete, optimised, low-energy solution with RF, baseband, microcontroller, qualified Bluetooth v4.0 stack and customer application running on a single chip,” said Paul Williamson, Director of µEnergy Marketing, CSR. “LG is clearly at the forefront of the emerging Bluetooth Smart revolution, and we are excited that this Tier-One OEM chose our µEnergy platform to power this groundbreaking accessory for their flagship Android smartphone.”
The LG One Key Bluetooth Smart remote control provides exciting new ways for consumers to interact with their smartphones. Going beyond simple Find Me and Proximity applications, which are provided, the LG One Key remote offers several exciting new capabilities, including the ability to trigger the smartphone’s camera shutter to make taking self-portraits and group photos a snap, as well as remotely controlling music selection and playback while the smartphone is sitting in a speaker dock. And because of the µEnergy platform’s industry-leading low-power operation, consumers can enjoy using the LG One Key remote for years on a single coin cell battery.
CSR worked closely with LG software developers to create the unique capabilities of the LG One Key remote and was able to jumpstart the task by basing much of it on the sample applications provided with the CSR µEnergy SDK, helping LG to bring their Bluetooth Smart accessory to market quickly and efficiently. The CSR µEnergy SDK provides support for a broad range of accessories out of the box with the flexibility to innovate by easily adding features when developing new accessories.
The CSR µEnergy platform addresses the needs of ultra low-power connected devices by unlocking the potential of the Bluetooth low energy standard and providing everything required to create a Bluetooth Smart accessory such as the LG One Key remote control. The CSR µEnergy platform has been optimised to support only Bluetooth low energy features, allowing products to be tiny, cost-effective and power-efficient, and may be used in simple sensors such as step-counting foot pods, heart rate monitors or key fobs, as well as in more complex low-power devices such as watches, keyboards and remote controls.
