Stonestreet One, BrightCom Technologies To Develop Embedded Bluetooth Solution
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky and SAN DIEGO - October 25, 2001 - Stonestreet One, a leading provider of Bluetooth hardware, software and engineering services, has teamed with BrightCom[tm] Technologies, the pioneer of Bluetooth Application Processors[tm], to introduce an embedded Bluetooth solution. The companies will work together to embed Stonestreet One's upper layer Bluetooth protocol stack, Bluetopia[tm], on BrightCom's BIC2101 Bluetooth Application Processor to give Bluetooth technology developers an integrated solution that reduces the resources required from an external processor and may even make external processors unnecessary.
Bluetopia has a shared API for various platforms and currently runs on a number of operating systems and microprocessor architectures including Intel, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, ARM, and DSP. It is easily ported and very scaleable, allowing developers to operate in many different Bluetooth development environments. Bluetopia is listed with the Bluetooth Qualifying Board.
The BrightCom BIC2101 Bluetooth Application Processor facilitates a wide range of applications, including peripheral interaction, file transfer and modem, mobile and voice communications. BrightCom Application Processors feature an embedded architecture comprised of a Bluetooth baseband core, complete software protocol stack, profiles and developer-friendly API, as well as hardware interfaces for specific applications. The BrightCom Application Processors account for the fact that real-life applications have different power, baseband, RF performance and memory requirements, depending on the types of devices that will be wirelessly networked.
"The thousands of potential uses for Bluetooth cannot be met with a single 'one-size-fits-all' product," David Barach, president, BrightCom USA, said. "Teaming with Stonestreet One makes our Application Processors more flexible by allowing customers to choose the stack that best fits the needs for their specific wireless applications."
Bluetooth technology, a new wireless standard developed by a group of leading computer, telecommunications and semiconductor companies, provides an open standard for short-range communications. Designed to enable wireless transmission of data and voice, Bluetooth technology eliminates the need for cables between electronic devices by utilizing a small, low-cost, low-power radio link.
