CSR aptX Audio Codec Technology Licensed by Sony
Consumer Electronics Giant Launches Its First aptX-Powered Products at CES 2013
Jan 8, 2013 -- CSR plc today announced it has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with Sony Corporation (TYO: 6758, NYSE: SNE) to enable the consumer electronics giant to incorporate CSR aptX® audio codec technology into a new generation of high-fidelity Bluetooth® audio accessories. Sony® is incorporating the CSR aptX technology and associated CSR Bluetooth® audio chips in a range of exciting new speaker product offerings to ensure the best possible Bluetooth stereo audio listening experience, and is introducing its first aptX-powered products at the International CES 2013.
“Sony is one of the truly iconic consumer electronics brands and its adoption of the CSR aptX codec marks a significant milestone in this technology’s evolution as the de facto industry standard for streaming high-fidelity audio over Bluetooth links,” said Anthony Murray, Business Group SVP at CSR. “From the transistor radio to the compact disc to the Walkman® music player and more, Sony has been at the forefront of audio innovation for more than half a century, and we are delighted that they have now chosen to implement aptX into a range of new speaker products for 2013 and beyond.”
CSR aptX technology is at the heart of many of the world’s most popular consumer electronics products. Although standard Bluetooth technology offers the ability to stream stereo audio wirelessly from handsets and other audio devices to headphones and speakers, the bandwidth-constrained audio does not come close to what consumers have come to expect from their electronic entertainment systems. CSR aptX audio coding technology solves this problem, breaking the bandwidth barrier to deliver CD-quality stereo audio wirelessly over Bluetooth connections for a variety of consumer electronics applications.
