Mentor Graphics Provides Critical USB IP Core for InfoStream Mobile Internet Platform from Parthus Technologies
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 23, 2001 - Mentor Graphics Corporation, leader in standards-based intellectual property (IP) solutions and services, today announced that it has licensed the Inventra[tm] USB Function Controller to Parthus® Technologies for use in the company's InfoStream mobile communications platform. The USB controller from Mentor Graphics® will be part of a highly integrated system-on-chip platform targeted for use in next-generation wireless Internet devices, including 3G smartphones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and mobile-multimedia devices.
"In developing our Infostream platform, we sought IP partners who could deliver best-in-class IP cores that have had demonstrated industry success," said Pat O'Connor, technical director for Parthus. "Mentor Graphics is recognized as a leading supplier of USB controllers and their IP core proved easy to integrate into our platform design. The company also provided the necessary engineering support to guarantee that the integration worked at first-pass."
"Companies are wary about turning to an unknown IP vendor for their critical system building blocks," said Dr. Susheel Chandra, general manager of the Mentor Graphics, Inventra Intellectual Property division. "Mentor Graphics is a proven silicon IP vendor with over one hundred customers who have successfully integrated our leading-edge cores. In the era of platform-based design where Parthus is forging ahead, the levels of IP core integration are unprecedented. It is of the utmost importance that companies be provided with the cores and support to ensure that their designs work with minimal integration issues."
