Elecard announces the release of a new version of Elecard ARM Codec SDK.
May 14, 2013 - Today, Elecard Devices, a leading developer of codecs and products for digital video, officially announced the release of the updated version of Elecard ARM Codec SDK, a software development kit for developing platform-independent multimedia applications for mobile and portable devices based on the ARM architecture. The new version comes with a HEVC decoder component that brings support for the newest High-Efficiency Video Coding format (HEVC), also known as H.265.
The update enables programmers to develop encoding and playback applications for digital video in the newest HEVC/H.265. A playback application with HEVC decoder and mpeg audio decoder can be assembled, which plays HEVC transport streams from a file or network. Notice, that audio and video synchronization is not yet possible, and the frame rate is fixed to 24 FPS.
The HEVC decoder supports 8bit digital content and increases encoding and decoding efficiency of video data using simplified parallelization. It has a single-threaded implementation of deblock filtering across all supported platforms. The 720p format with the maximum 1.5 Mbps bit rate is achieved on the quad-core ARM Cortex-A8 devices with deblocking filter off, quantization of at least 27, and random access encoding profile.
Built on the OpenMAX technology, Elecard ARM Codec SDK ensures the successful development of cross-platform applications for the full range of mobile processors and different mobile operating systems such as Android, iOS, Windows Phone and many others. By exploiting high performance ARM Cortex-A8 processors with NEON technology, Elecard codecs provide significant multimedia and signal processing acceleration.
