Imagination Technologies' 2012 growth outpaces industry by 3x
Gartner research shows Imagination is fastest-growing among leading design IP companies
London, UK – 12 June 2013 – Imagination Technologies (IMG.L), a leading multimedia, processor, communications and cloud technologies company, announces that it was the fastest growing company among leading IP companies in 2012, outpacing growth of the overall design IP market by more than 3x. The “Market Share Analysis: Semiconductor Design Intellectual Property, Worldwide, 2012” (April 2, 2013) report from market research firm Gartner showed that the third-party semiconductor design IP market grew by 11.2% in 2012, and Imagination grew by 36.4%. MIPS Technologies, recently acquired by Imagination, also outpaced industry growth in 2012, growing by more than 17%.
For the sixth year in a row, Imagination maintained its position in the survey as the third largest design IP provider, with its overall share growing each year. With MIPS in the fourth position, the companies together comprised 11.3% of the design IP market share.
Tony King-Smith, EVP marketing, Imagination, says: “Imagination’s PowerVR GPUs and video processors already respectively lead the industry in unit shipments. The addition of MIPS enables Imagination to meaningfully enter the CPU segment—the largest design IP market. MIPS CPUs are designed for the highest performance, smallest area and lowest power consumption, and offer a true alternative in many key markets. With the continued growth of our PowerVR and MIPS IP families into new segments, and the strong demand developing for our Ensigma communications and Flow cloud IP, we intend to grow our overall share of the design IP market again in 2013 by providing an unrivalled range of IP for future generations of our customers’ SoCs.”
