Philips Selects ATMOS 1T SoC-RAM Compiled, High-density 1T Embedded Memory.
Agreement includes engineering collaboration for further innovation
Eindhoven, Netherlands and Ottawa, Ontario, Canada - 05/28/2002 - Philips' semiconductor division has chosen the world's only compiled, high-density "1T" embedded memory from ATMOS Corporation to develop its next generation of low-power and generic CMOS products. The agreement enables Philips to use ATMOS 1T SoC-RAM™ 0.13µm memory macrocells in application-specific semiconductor and ASIC products. In addition, the companies have agreed to collaborate on manufacturing activities, including built-in self-test (BIST) and repair; and will co-develop new solutions to challenges of deep sub-micron embedded memory, including soft error upset.
"Philips chose ATMOS 1T SoC-RAM to reap the benefits of very high density, low power in both standby and active modes and low susceptibility to soft error rates, enabling us to lead the technology curve with highly integrated, small, efficient and reliable system-on-a-chip products," said Rene Penning de Vries, deputy-CTO at Philips Semiconductors. "But perhaps most important to us is the 1T SoC-RAM compiler enabling our designers to rapidly create large high density memory instances."
"ATMOS is pleased to provide Philips with embedded memory solutions that will enable the next generation of competitive SoC products," said Paul Slaby, CEO of ATMOS Corporation. "As embedded memory comprises greater than 50% of SoC die area today, our investment in designing and developing the most innovative, high-density 1T embedded memory will allow us to provide Philips competitive advantage for it's SoC designs."
1T SoC-RAM is silicon-proven in two technology generations and multiple processes, and includes trusted-memory options such as error correcting code (ECC) and BIST.
