Elliptic Technologies Premiers New Standards-Compliant HDCP 2.2 Solutions with Synopsys HDMI 2.0 IP
Update: Synopsys Expands Security Solutions with Acquisition of Elliptic Technologies (June 29, 2015)
Industry leading Content Protection Technology to be presented at IBC 2013
September 12, 2013 – Ottawa, Canada: Elliptic Technologies, a leading provider of field-proven embedded security and content protection solutions, and Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS), a global leader providing software, IP and services used to accelerate innovation in chips and electronic systems, today announced the industry’s first standards compliant HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) solutions to protect UHD (Ultra-High Definition) content over uncompressed streaming interfaces.
Connected and mobile devices are revolutionizing premium video distribution and consumption. These powerful devices are UHD capable with impressive high-resolution screens that provide an immersive, intuitive and compelling video experience to their users. At the same time, content and service providers are driving the need to secure premium content such as digital motion pictures, television programs and audio against unauthorized interception and copying between connected devices including HDTVs, set top boxes, smart phones and tablets. HDCP 2.2 is a security technology that has broad industry support from the major players in the digital entertainment value chain, including motion picture studios, semiconductor companies and consumer electronics manufacturers.
“We are very pleased to support the ultimate viewing experience of premium content with Elliptic Technologies, a trusted security provider for content protection, and deliver complete, technically aligned HDCP 2.2 security over HDMI 2.0,” said John Koeter, Vice President of Marketing for IP and Systems at Synopsys. “Synopsys’ HDMI 2.0 Rx/Tx controllers and PHYs coupled with Elliptic’s HDCP 2.2 Embedded Security Modules enable our mutual customers to quickly bring products to market that meet the highest security and performance requirements of UHD multimedia systems.”
“Synopsys is a world renowned leader in Semiconductor IP and EDA and we’re very excited to collaborate with them to provide our customers with state-of-the-art solutions to support the latest security technologies for streaming and playing high frame-rate 4K content,” said Vijay Dube, President & CEO of Elliptic Technologies. “Our highly-secure HDCP 2.2 Embedded Security Modules are seamlessly integrated with Synopsys’ HDMI 2.0 IPs and fully meet the stringent compliancy and robustness requirements mandated by the HDCP standard.”
Elliptic’s standalone Embedded Security Modules (ESMs) for HDCP2 on HDMI contain all the necessary processing elements to be integrated directly within or beside an HDMI controller module. Elliptic offers these modules in Transmitter (Tx), Receiver (Rx) and Repeater configurations. The compact ESMs are highly secure and have the entire control plane processing including the authentication and key exchange protocols embedded inside the module. The ESM’s offer a flexible design that supports functional upgrades to allow chipset manufactures to stay up-to-date with standards and premium content protection requirements. The flow-through video processing data plane provides minimum latency and internal buffering to accommodate the bandwidth required for 4K x 2K UHD resolution at 60 Hz frame rate.
Synopsys’ DesignWare® HDMI 2.0 TX/RX IP solutions, including controller, PHY, and example Linux drivers, reduce designers' integration risk and time-to-market. With aggregate bandwidth of up to 18 Gbps, the DesignWare HDMI 2.0 IP enables 4K x 2K (4400 vertical pixels x 2250 horizontal pixels) resolution at a 60 Hz frame rate in deep color mode to provide a flickerless, ultra high-definition (UHD) viewing experience. The IP's ability to scramble transition-minimized differential signalling (TMDS) data above 3.4 Gbps adds to the high-quality viewing experience by minimizing the electromagnetic interference (EMI) that occurs in 8b/10b coded data streams. In addition, its robust analog front end supports pre-emphasis and adaptive equalization for excellent signal integrity across cable lengths greater than 100 feet.
Elliptic’s embedded security solutions are being shipped to leading device manufacturers, chipset vendors and service providers around the world. Elliptic will be exhibiting its solutions at the IBC Show (Stand 5.B46e) in Amsterdam.
