MediaTek, Marvell and Qualcomm Made Progress in Tablet Apps Processors in Q2 2013
Apple Maintains Lead
Boston, MA - October 16, 2013 – The global tablet processor market registered an impressive 46 percent year-on-year growth to reach $759 million in Q2 2013, according to the Strategy Analytics Handset Component Technologies (HCT) service report, “Tablet Apps Processor Market Share Q2 2013: MediaTek Grabs Number Three Spot.”
Apple, Samsung, MediaTek, Intel and Qualcomm featured in Strategy Analytics’ Q2 2013 top-five tablet applications processor revenue share rankings. Apple continued its lead in the tablet applications processor market with 34 percent revenue share in Q2 2013, followed by Samsung and MediaTek, each with close to 10 percent revenue share. Samsung had a narrow lead over MediaTek in Q2 2013.
According to Sravan Kundojjala, Senior Analyst, “MediaTek, a late comer to the tablet applications processor market, made strong progress in a relatively short time and captured the number three revenue share spot in Q2 2013. MediaTek scored significant design-wins with Acer, Asus and Lenovo. Strategy Analytics comments that MediaTek’s tactics of releasing stand-alone applications processors for the tablet market coupled with its reference design know-how have propelled its share to double-digits in the tablet applications processor market.”
According to Stuart Robinson, Director of the Strategy Analytics Handset Component Technologies service, “During Q2 2013, Marvell and Qualcomm also made good progress, thanks to their high-profile tablet design-wins. Strategy Analytics believes that Intel with its Bay Trail chip and NVIDIA with its Tegra 4 chip are also poised for tablet applications processor market share growth in the second half of 2013.”
