Avnet Electronics Marketing Unveils Xylon Touchscreen HMI Reference Design for the MicroZed Evaluation Kit
Oct 29, 2013 -- PHOENIX -- Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) today announced the release of a new touchscreen Human Machine Interface (HMI) reference design from Xylon, a leading provider of advanced FPGA application solutions, IP cores and design services for its MicroZed™ evaluation kit. The MicroZed is based on the Xilinx® Zynq™-7000 All Programmable SoC.
The reference design is available for free and showcases the MicroZed working as a Linux-based System-on-Module (SOM) with a graphics touchscreen HMI that is connected to an I/O Carrier Card and the 7-inch Zed Touch Display Kit from Avnet Electronics Marketing. The MicroZed uses ilixi user interface toolkit to run several DirectFB and Qt graphics applications on the attached LCD display and to control them by the capacitive touchscreen.
“The software driver for Linux, as well as the evaluation version of Xylon’s display controller core, both included in this reference design, will help engineers save significant time in the conception of their products,” said Jim Beneke, vice president of global technical marketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing. “Through this reference design, our experts can help engineers expedite the creation of their own applications – at the lowest possible cost.”
“We are thrilled by the success of our logicBRICKS reference designs for the ZedBoard and their acceptance by the respectable design community spearheaded by Avnet Electronics Marketing”, said Davor Kovacec, CEO and founder of Xylon. “Extending our support to the MicroZed is a logical step forward, as we especially admire its SOM form factor, which helps engineers build fully customized electronics assemblies that leverage the ultimate Zynq-7000 SoC flexibility”.
System designers can use the demonstrated HMI as a basis for their next Xilinx Zynq-7000 All Programmable design and integrate it with their application specific parts. The LCD display is controlled by Xylon’s logiCVC-ML advanced display controller logicBRICKS IP core, which is compatible with the Xilinx Vivado® IP Integrator (IPI) design and verification environment. The logiCVC-ML IP core supports multiple graphics layers, hardware accelerated layers blending, different pixel formats and video output formats, and comes with software drivers that assure a smooth integration with the Linux operating system.
Design deliverables include: evaluation logiCVC-ML Compact Multilayer Video Controller IP core, hardware design files prepared for Xilinx Vivado 2013.2 design suite, complete Linux OS image, ilixi User Interface (UI) toolkit and application framework for DirectFB, Xylon logicBRICKS software drivers for Linux OS, and DirectFB and Qt demo applications.
