Alvesta and Mysticom Demonstrate Very Short Reach (VSR) 10 Gigabit Ethernet Optical Solution Over Extended Fiber Distances
Mysticom's 10G Ethernet transceiver and Alvesta's 10G Optical transceiver together enable high bandwidth, high density optical interconnects
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 4, 2002 – Mysticom, a leading supplier of Ethernet and Backplane communications ICs, announced superior performance and extended data transmission distances during interoperability testing with Alvesta optical transceivers. The tests confirmed that Mysticom's MY3004 10G Ethernet Transceiver and Alvesta's 3200 10G Optical Transceiver, together provide an optical solution for Very Short Reach (VSR) 10 Gbps Ethernet enabling extended distances for cost-effective, high speed connections within Central Office (CO) and data center type environments.
In the interoperability test utilizing standard 50/125 um multimode fiber, the link was operated at a distance of 300 meters, three times (3x) the currently supported standard distance of 100 meters. A variety of data patterns were transmitted, including the stressful IEEE Draft P802.3ae/D4.1 Continuous Random Pattern (CRPAT). These results were achieved with a Bit Error Rate (BER) greater than 10-14.
"We are pleased that Mysticom has successfully demonstrated interoperability with the MY3004 XAUI Serdes and our 3200 optical transceiver," said Robert Nalesnik, vice president of marketing at Alvesta. "These results provide customers with added confidence in deploying optical 10 gigabit Ethernet solutions."
"Mysticom is committed to bringing new capabilities and performance levels for high speed inter system connections," said Wiren Perera, Mysticom's vice president of worldwide marketing. "Our partnership with Alvesta has allowed us to deliver a high-performance 10Gbps VSR optical interconnect solution with extended fiber reach, satisfying a growing customer need."
About the Mysticom MY3004
The Mysticom MY3004 is a four-channel 3.125Gbps serializer/deserializer (SerDes) device for backplane and 10G Ethernet applications. The device features Mysticom's unique Signal Quality IndexTM that is used in conjunction with adaptive line-conditioning software to fine tune five signal link parameters for optimal system performance. The device is compatible with the latest version of the IEEE 802.3ae 10G XAUI Ethernet specification. It is manufactured using a 0.15-micron CMOS process and is the smallest form factor, lowest power, 10Gbps Ethernet transceiver on the market. For 10Gbps Ethernet applications, the device connects directly to optical modules that support the XAUI interface or to XAUI-based pluggable formats such as XENPAK and XPAK.
About the Alvesta 3200
Alvesta is the first supplier in the industry with a 10-Gbps, four-channel parallel optics transceiver optimized for data transport. The Alvesta 3200 supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel data over distances of up to 100 meters.
