KALRAY launches MPPA BOARD EMB01, its first MPPA-based embedded board
Orsay, Paris -- December 9, 2013 — KALRAY is pleased to announce the release of its first embedded board based on the high performance and energy efficient MPPA MANYCORE processor. The EMB01 board was designed as a modular, extensible and autonomous reference board to deploy demanding embedded applications.
After the success of its MPPA DEVELOPER station launched in February 2013, KALRAY now makes its high performance MPPA-256 processor available on a new compact size board. The EMB01 is primarily intended for demanding embedded applications such as video, image and signal processing. The EMB01 computing power and broad choice of interfaces (see features below) also makes it an ideal candidate for a much larger set of application fields.
The EMB01 features an x86 compatible host processor together with the MPPA-256 processor delivering 230 GFlops (or 700 Gops) in a typical energy footprint of 5 to 10 Watt. At 25 GFlops/W, the EMB01 is one of the most compact and high performance embedded board world-wide.
The C/C++ software programming environment of the EMB01 board is provided through the MPPA DEVELOPER station and an MPPA ACCESSCORE SDK add-on. Applications developed and optimized on the MPPA DEVELOPER station can easily be offloaded to the EMB01 board and run in standalone.
The EMB01 board is available for pre-order right now at a unit cost of 1950€ ($2480), with first deliveries expected in March 2014. Existing Kalray customers will have access to early samples as soon as December 2013. New customers must also acquire the MPPA DEVELOPER station to develop their applications and get acces to the MPPA ACCESSCORE software development environment.

EMB01 Carrier board
The MPPA®-256 processor comes with a rich set of standard interfaces:
- A PCIe interface connecting the MPPA®-256 and the x86 host processor board
- 4GB of DDR3L SO-DIMM
- NOR flash (512 Mb, 16-bit parallel)
- Extension connector (K-connector) including MPPA NoCX (NoC extension), two 1Gbit Ethernet and GPIOs
- General purpose serial interfaces (I²C, SPI, CAN)
- RS232 over USB
- Debug and trace interface
Host Processor Board
The x86 host processor board is a standard COM Express (Type 6, compact size).
This host processor comes with its own set of standard interfaces:
- 1 Gb Ethernet (RJ-45) interface
- Two PCIe Gen2 interfaces
- Two USB 3.0 / USB 2.0 interfaces
- SSD for storage
- SATA2
- LVDS, Mini Display Port
