World's First 802.11ah IP Introduced by Antcor
Antcor's 802.11ah IP enables the creation of next generation connectivity processors
SAN JOSE, California -- February 18, 2014 -- Antcor S.A., a leading innovator of Wi-Fi IP announces world's first 802.11ah IP, a unique offering designed to enable the next generation of connectivity processors.
Despite the wide spread availability of Wi-Fi in high-throughput consumer devices, a new era of products for enabling the Internet-of-Things (IoT) introduces new challenges in terms of low-power consumption and long-distance transmission. This gap is filled by the emerging 802.11ah standard, which operates in sub-1GHz bands with favorable propagation characteristics and is based on a physical layer that inherits the advancements of 802.11ac.
Antcor's first to market 802.11ah IP employs a flexible architecture allowing a clear path to upgradability as the standard evolves. The offering covers battery operated devices such as wearables and sensors and is also scalable up to 4x4 MIMO to support Smart-Home Gateways and industrial automation infrastructure networks.
Will Strauss, Principal Analyst for market researcher Forward Concepts, commented: "The growing market for IoT (Internet of Things) will be significantly enhanced by the new 802.11ah sub-GHz low-power wireless technology and Antcor is the first out of the gate to offer a solution for chip rollout." Mr. Strauss added: "Antcor's proven Proteus(tm) 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac platform provides assurance of a smooth implementation."
Antcor's 802.11 IP portfolio is designed with an optimized balance of programmability and hardware acceleration delivering reduced design risks, enhanced performance, low power, accelerated time to market and path for vendor's SoC differentiation.
Costas Meimetis, CEO of Antcor, commented:" We strongly believe that IoT era is going to unlock tremendous opportunities for the semiconductor ecosystem in the years to come.
Antcor's 802.11ah IP announced today proves that our commitment to innovation and high quality connectivity IP remains constant. This new offering which complements our existing expanded Wi-Fi IP portfolio, is ideal for enabling SoC devices in the space of wearables, sensors, and smart-home gateways."
