Mobileye and Imagination strengthen partnership
Companies extend collaboration on next-generation vision processing for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
Jerusalem, Israel, and London, UK – February 24th, 2014 – Mobileye, the world leader in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Imagination Technologies (IMG.L), announced today that they are extending their partnership focusing on creation of highly reliable, efficient vision processing for Mobileye’s ADAS technology.
Mobileye has already shipped over 2.5 million EyeQ2 and EyeQ3 SoCs that are based on Imagination’s MIPS processor architecture. These vision processors, together with Mobileye’s broad range of algorithms for mono-camera driver assistance systems, target vehicle active safety applications such as lane departure warning, vehicle detection, pedestrian detection, intelligent headlight control and traffic sign recognition.
Mobileye will leverage Imagination’s MIPS Aptiv and Series5 Warrior CPU cores in its next-generation design. Imagination’s MIPS multi-threaded interAptiv cores will provide the real-time response, Quality of Service (QoS) and reliability needed to efficiently perform multiple simultaneous operations across the numerous Vision Processors (VP) in the Mobileye system. In addition, entry-level MIPS Warrior M-class M5150 cores will provide controller functionality within the system the various I/O interfaces.
“With each successive generation of our EyeQ products, we have achieved more than 6x increase in performance, and Imagination’s multi-threaded MIPS cores have played a key role in that achievement. The MIPS cores, together with Mobileye’s innovative Vision Processors (VP) enable us to provide unrivalled computing power on a single processor based camera while keeping very low power budget,” said Elchanan Rushinek, Mobileye SVP Engineering.
“Mobileye is a pioneer in driver safety and assistance, leading the way in terms of both technology and market penetration. Thanks to our aggressive MIPS roadmap, increasing focus on heterogeneous processing and a fundamental belief in the power of multi-threading, Imagination’s strategies are perfectly aligned with those of Mobileye. We look forward to continuing our long partnership for many years to come,” said Tony King-Smith, EVP marketing, Imagination Technologies.
Mobileye’s EyeQ SoC constantly monitor the driving environment directly in front of the vehicle and either alert the driver or active the car emergency breaks/steering before an impending accident with a car, pedestrian, bicyclist, motorcycle or if the driver is about to switch lanes without using a turn signal. The EyeQ SoC is also capable of detecting speed limit signs as well as adding intelligent high-beam control of the vehicles’ high and low beams during night driving.
Mobileye is a dominant supplier of camera-based collision avoidance technology and ADAS in general and its safety technology is currently utilized by a range of car manufacturers including Volvo, GM and Honda among others.
