Chips&Media's HEVC 4:2:0 10-Bit Decoder IP Licensed to Chipmaker
April 11, 2014 -- Chips&Media Inc. a leading provider of video IP core, announced today that they has signed a licensing agreement with one of the major fabless companies for WAVE410™v2- HEVC 4:2:0 10bit decoder IP and has finished shipping.
As many of TV suppliers have already been rolling out UHD(3840x2160) TVs in the market, contents providers are now hastening to offer 4K contents service. Given that this kind of wave is not spreading only for major appliances like TVs, but also for small mobile appliances, demand for 4K SoC is expected to explode significantly. Also, there is a growing demand for stunningly vivid and accurate colors, which drive content sources to move rapidly to a 10-bit color depth from an 8-bit currently.
For responding to such market’s needs in a timely manner, Chips&Media has come up with a new video solution, WAVE410v2 and has started to ship to their customers. WAVE410™v2 is capable to decode UHD video with very low power consumption by deployment of CFrame™ which is also a standalone IP of their proprietary frame compression technology and achieves 50~60% off bandwidth on average. WAVE410v2 is primarily based on hardware implementation for real time high performance, and its scalable architecture enables to process up to 8K 60fps with multi-core operation.
Last year Chips&Media had released the world's first HEVC 4:2:0 8bit decoder IP, WAVE410™v1 and it is now a silicon proven IP by many of multimedia SoC companies licensed for. They have a new product launch – WAVE420™ HEVC Codec IP coming soon this year.
