Wipro Technologies unveils Version 1.1 of its Home Gateway Software Solution with DSL Support
New Extended Platform enhances development of DSL based Gateways for Home and Small Office.
Wipro Technologies, the global IT services division of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT), today announced support for the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) applications in its new version of Home Gateway Software Solution. The new version of Home Gateway Software enhances development of advanced gateway devices for Home and Small Office, combining DSL broadband access with local networking, security and versatile management capabilities.
The company is demonstrating its new version of Home Gateway Software Solution with DSL support at Embedded Systems Expo and Conference (ESEC) in Tokyo, Japan. The demonstration shows that the Wipro Home Gateway Software can be used for sharing DSL broadband Internet connection and for Voice over DSL telephony, which supports upto 4 simultaneous voice/fax calls. This offering is in addition to an earlier release of Home Gateway version 1.0 Software Solution for cable broadband segment and that can be used for sharing broadband Internet connection, home files and device sharing, in-home wireless LAN connectivity, IP Telephony (Voice Over IP), Virtual Private Network connectivity, video on demand, and for home security and surveillance applications.
Home Gateway Software version 1.1 with DSL support, is in line with Wipro's strategy to provide complete solution tailored to key market segments in the Residential broadband space. Home Gateways version 1.1 also supports VOIP over DSL using MGCP, UPnP IGD, Virtual Private Network (VPN) and security features. Home Gateway Software version 1.1 is suitable for DSL modems, SOHO routers, home gateways and integrated access (IAD) devices. The solution provides cost savings of 30% - 70% and substantial time to market advantage to the product OEMs. Wipro can help the customers to roll out their product in around 6 months time, using this software solution. Home Gateway Software version 1.1 is backed by Wipro's strong design services that will help porting this solution to any hardware platform and in customization.
Wipro Home Gateway version 1.1 contains most common protocols supporting DSL architectures like PPPoA and CLIP, including bridging and routing IP protocols as well as point to point protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) client and server. The solution is compatible with embedded Linux and VxWorks operating system and supports hardware platforms based on x86, MIPS and ARM processor. Also, it provides lot of APIs for the equipment vendor to build various applications over it. This software is based on open standards like IETF RFCs, IEEE Standards, DSL Forum, ATM Forum and UPNP etc. This software is unique in the sense that it offers DSL Communication Engine and DSL Voice Engine in one bundle to the DSL modem manufacturer and DSL Silicon Vendors. It provides the complete solution to the customer, meeting most of his current and future requirements. The customer can use it easily as a component in his product without even worrying about the various integration issues involved.
The number of DSL subscribers has passed the 10 million mark worldwide. The technology has proven to be a cost-effective option for businesses to connect to the internet, as well as an attractive service home users and telecommuters. Technology advancements are enabling enhanced services such as voice and multimedia applications.
