Bivo Networks Teams with Xilinx to Deliver Industry's First Gigabit Speed Carrier Class IP Service Platform
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 1, 2002 -Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced that Bivio Networks, a developer of IP network service platforms, selected Xilinx® Virtex-II™ Platform FPGAs to enable reprogrammable networking solutions for a variety of Enterprise and Service Provider environments. Bivio Networks used the Xilinx FPGAs to implement an element of Bivio's eXpressLANE technology which is used for high speed internal system communication. Bivio's enterprise and service provider customers benefit from dramatic reductions in Capex/Opex spending through network simplicity and increased flexibility. The ease of use of the Xilinx Integrated Software Environment (ISE) provided Bivio with a significant time-to-market advantage over the competition.
"Xilinx Virtex-II Platform FPGAs outclass other FPGAs on the market and provided a significant contribution to our unique design," said Homayoun Valizadeh, vice president of Engineering at Bivio Networks. "The combination of high performance FPGAs and comprehensive software tools provided us the low risk and feature-rich capability we needed to introduce a ground breaking networking product without employing custom ASICs."
"Bivio's application of Xilinx FPGAs represents our ability to make a significant impact with enabling technologies for our customers," said Erich Goetting, vice president and general manager of the Advanced Product Division at Xilinx. "For the first time network operators have the ability to deploy network services based on software assets without the high cost of acquiring and deploying new specialized hardware."
About the Bivio 1000 IP Service Platform
The Bivio 1000 represents a new type of network device that combines the best qualities of a high performance computer and a gigabit speed network device in an integrated platform - at the price point of a single network appliance. Instead of deploying separate routing, security, and other network service products, the Bivio 1000 allows network operators to deploy a single platform that executes software programs with the equivalent functionality and performance of their hardware counterparts.
About Xilinx Platform FPGAs
The Virtex-II Platform FPGA family delivers the highest performance and highest density of any programmable logic solution available. The innovative Virtex-II IP-Immersion architecture enables integration of both hard and soft intellectual property (IP), enhanced system memory, and lightning-fast DSP performance, providing the best platform for advanced digital designs in the industry. With densities ranging from 40,000 to 8 million-system gates, Virtex-II solutions are empowered by advanced design tools that reduce development time through fast design, powerful synthesis, smart implementation algorithms, and efficient verification capabilities.
