Silicon Image Announces New MHL 3.0 Design Win in nubia's Flagship nubia Z7 Smartphone
MHL 3.0 Momentum Increasing with nubia Z7 First to Leverage MHL 3.0 Video and USB High Speed Data Channel
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- July 21, 2014 - Silicon Image (NASDAQ: SIMG), a leading provider of multimedia connectivity solutions and services, today announced a key MHL® 3.0 design win with nubia, a popular ZTE premium brand in China, for its flagship Z7 smartphone. Using Silicon Image's SiI8620 and SiI6031 MHL 3.0 chipset, the nubia Z7 is the first smartphone to implement simultaneous 4K UHD video and high speed data channel found in the latest MHL specification. The nubia Z7 is able to deliver immersive 4K Ultra HD (UHD) video and all USB functions, including data file transfers and human interface devices (HID), such as keyboard, mouse and touch, over its existing mobile device connector.
"We are excited to see continued adoption of MHL 3.0 within the mobile marketplace," said David Kuo, senior director, mobile product marketing at Silicon Image. "As the first 4K smartphone made by a China brand, the nubia Z7 is well positioned to deliver pristine mobile 4K to DTV entertainment and gaming in China, the largest consumer of 4K DTVs in the world."
"The collaboration on Z7 is not the first cooperation between nubia and Silicon Image," said Ni Fei, General Manager of nubia. "After continuous communication and testing from both teams, we have reached a perfect performance carried out by MHL 3.0 and nubia Z7. The nubia Z7 therefore has more potential in providing better home entertainment, gaming and productivity experiences, bringing more satisfaction to the users. We look forward to having more long-term cooperation with Silicon Image in the future."
The Z7 is nubia's first MHL 3.0 smartphone model. The nubia Z5, Z5 mini and Z5S mini smartphones featuring MHL 2.0 technology are already in production.
MHL 3.0 specification features include:
- 4K (Ultra HD): Support of 4K formats up to 2160p30
- Simultaneous high-speed data channel for USB transfer
- Support for Human Interface Device (HID) peripherals such as a touch screen, keyboard and mouse
