Coreworks develops audio IP core for integration in SoC and FPGA for 8K UHDTV encoding
Lisbon, Portugal, Sep 23, 2014 – Coreworks SA, a leading provider of audio semiconductor IP solutions, together with its representative in Japan, Spinnaker Systems Inc., announce that Coreworks has now completed the development of an audio encoding system to support multiple audio formats and multiple audio streams for the next generation of UHDTV, known as 8K UHDTV. The underlying hardware platform developed by Coreworks supports a wide variety of digital audio formats, namely, Dolby Digital Professional, MPEG-1/2 Layers I/II, AAC-LC, HE-AAC, and HE-AAC v2. The platform supports as well low delay audio coding, known as Pass-through, AAC-ELD and its' extreme low delay sub-mode, AAC-XLD.
The audio core is able to encode up to 8 stereo simultaneous streams in real-time, using any combination of the formats listed above. Furthermore, the processors can be reorganized in one or two clusters, in order to support multichannel modes (for instance, the widely used 5.1 channel mode) or high-end multichannel modes, such as the 15.1 mode used in Dolby Digital Plus or the 22.2 mode being developed by NHK in Japan.
The synchronization of the audio and video streams is a challenging task. However, due to its long experience in real-time processing, the audio IP cores from Coreworks have built-in modules that take care of this problem. This top-notch feature is very useful for system integrators.
“The Coreworks audio cores, built with our power efficient patented reconfigurable architecture (SideWorks), together with the native synchronization mechanisms, are high-end IP cores that provide considerable savings in engineering costs and time for our customers” said Fernando Gonçalves, President and CEO of Coreworks.
Since 2009, Spinnaker distributes the entire line of Coreworks IP cores in Japan. Due to this long collaboration, Spinnaker has a deep understanding of the IP core’s specifications, providing an excellent support to the local companies.
