ViXS Video SoC Is the First to Support 12-Bit High Dynamic Range Technology
ViXS' HDR Technology Sets a New Leadership Standard for 4K Ultra HD by Delivering Revolutionary Colour and Contrast for a Lifelike Video Experience
TORONTO, ON, Jan 05, 2015 -- ViXS Systems Inc. (VXS), a pioneer and leader in media processing solutions, has set another new benchmark for video processing with today's announcement of its innovative 12-bit High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology. 12-bit HDR technology is the next evolutionary step in creating lifelike video experiences for the consumer. Video product manufacturers, content creators and service operators require HDR technology for the next wave of video enhancements to deliver a fully immersive 4K Ultra HD experience to their customers. ViXS will be showcasing HDR technology at CES 2015, January 6 to 9, in the ViXS booth MP26055 in South Hall 2 in the LVCC, Las Vegas.
HDR technology extends the dynamic range of brightness levels that can be displayed, bringing spectacular clarity and brilliance to the human eye. HDR preserves brighter brights and darker darks showing missing details that are often removed by distribution methods, especially for fast action, special effects and sports related video content. Current broadcast technologies are limited to approximately 219 levels of brightness and contrast, 10 bit HDR is limited to less than 1,000 levels and 12 bit HDR increases brightness and contrast to 4,000 levels, thus providing the best method to preserve key video content details. 12-bit video has been specified by several industry organizations as a key differentiator over current standard dynamic range broadcasting and publicly announced as a requirement by movie studios for future distribution of 4K Ultra HD content. ViXS has been working very closely with movie studios, standards bodies, and other experts in the field of video processing to develop a leading edge 12-bit technology with the enhanced programmability to process multiple HDR broadcasting techniques.
