picoTurbo Introduces New pT-110Mx[tm] Microprocessor Core for Advanced Consumer Devices
New CPU intellectual property (IP) core specifically designed for devices running Linux, Windows CE, PalmOS and Symbian OS
Microprocessor Forum 2001, Silicon Valley, CA (October, 15 2001) - picoTurbo today announced it has released a new microprocessor core, the pT-110MxTM, designed specifically for advanced consumer devices running industry leading operating systems, including Linux, Windows CE, Palm OS and Symbian OS.
The pT-110Mx[tm] core is a new member of the pT-110[tm] family, designed in response to demand for a 32-bit synthesizable core with virtual memory capabilities that could be embedded in consumer equipment, such as PDAs, pocket PCs, smart phones, handheld games, cellular phones, Internet appliances, set-top boxes, advanced wireless handsets, networking and other consumer electronics products.
"The pT-110MxTM microprocessor is ideal for next-generation consumer devices that need speed, high-end functions and extended battery life," said Bruno Kajiyama, picoTurbo's vice president of marketing. "This new RISC core offers increased CPU performance, enhanced features, low manufacturing cost and synthesizable design for efficient product development."
Key features of the pT-110Mx[tm] core include:
Synthesizable 32-bit RISC architecture
5 stages
400MHz (typical) 300MHz (worst conditions)
90K - 180K gates
0.34 - 0.70mW/MHz
98%
0.13 µm process
Separate 16- or 32-entry instruction and data MMU for virtual to physical translation.
In-Circuit-Emulator based on JTAG
The pT-110Mx[tm] has been architected and designed for a synthesizable flow, allowing designers to port the core to any silicon process quickly and to integrate it easily in a System-on-a-chip. This provides manufacturing flexibility and fast time-to-market chip design.
The pT-110Mx[tm] core is available for licensing immediately. It has been simulated and tested on FPGA. A test-chip tape-out for the new core is planned for the fourth quarter of 2001.
