HiSilicon and Intel both registered triple-digit year-on-year growth in smartphone apps processor shipments in Q3 2014
Boston, MA - January 27, 2015 - The global smartphone applications processor (AP) market grew 16 percent year-on-year growth to reach $5.6 billion in Q2 2014, according to Strategy Analytics Handset Component Technologies service report, “Smartphone Apps Processor Market Share Q3 2014: Qualcomm and Apple Capture 70 Percent Revenue Share.”
According to this Strategy Analytics report, Qualcomm, Apple, MediaTek, Spreadtrum and Samsung featured in the top-five smartphone applications processor (AP) rankings in Q3 2014. Qualcomm maintained its lead in the smartphone AP market with 51 percent revenue share, followed by Apple with 19 percent revenue share and MediaTek with 15 percent revenue share.
According to Sravan Kundojjala, Associate Director, “HiSilicon and Intel both registered triple-digit year-on-year growth in smartphone AP shipments in Q3 2014, based on Strategy Analytics estimates. In Q3 2014, HiSilicon’s APs featured in multiple high volume LTE smartphones from Huawei while Intel drew almost all of its growth from Asus ZenFone-branded smartphones.”
According to Stuart Robinson, Executive Director of the Strategy Analytics Handset Component Technologies (HCT) service, “Despite its huge scale and increased competition, Qualcomm continues to grow and its smartphone AP shipments registered an impressive 57 percent year-on-year growth in Q3 2014, by Strategy Analytics estimates. This can be attributed to Qualcomm's global LTE smartphone momentum and strong traction in mid-range 3G smartphones.”
