Microsemi Strengthens Leadership in Defense and Security with Category 1A Trusted Supplier Accreditation From DMEA
Company is the Only Accredited Supplier Offering Both FPGA and ASIC Solutions and Services for Multiple End-markets Such as Defense and Communications
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Feb. 18, 2015 -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced it has received the Category 1A Trusted Design, Test and Broker accreditation from the Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA). The completion of the Category 1A Trusted accreditation is a major milestone for Microsemi, and is part of its ongoing strategy to become one of a few companies to deliver Trusted Integrated Circuit (IC) solutions that can be leveraged in today's critical applications requiring assurance of silicon design and manufacturing as outlined in DOD policy (DODI 5200.44). DODI 5200.44 further defines the protection of mission critical components within applicable systems by requiring all custom integrated circuit-related products be procured from a trusted supplier.
Microsemi Corporation.
DMEA serves as a technology partner to the U.S. government program managers and engineering liaison to all sectors of defense contractors to provide and support the most effective microelectronics technologies available through the commercial sector. DMEA works with commercial industry organizations such as Microsemi to uniquely provide an economical and logistically efficient resource to deliver trusted microelectronic technology insertion to fielded systems.
"This accreditation further solidifies Microsemi's position as one of a few companies committed to providing the defense and security markets with trusted products," said Amr El-Ashmawi, vice president, corporate marketing, Microsemi. "With concerns about supply chain assurance and the need to expand the trusted USG offerings, Microsemi is well positioned as a company to further expand the access to trusted solutions."
With most FPGAs manufactured offshore, customers now have a trusted supplier with the broadest portfolio of semiconductor IP including one which carries through to the development of ASICs and FPGAs with a Category 1A trusted flow that augments the Microsemi trusted packaging accreditation in Microsemi's Phoenix, Arizona location. Microsemi's U.S.-based design team can now take on a wide range of new "Trusted & ITAR" projects for various government and communications infrastructure programs.
According to Deletek, for fiscal year 2015, there is a $59.6 billion increase in "top 20 contract opportunities" versus fiscal year 2014. Additionally, there is a requirement for increased bandwidth performance due to the performance complexities and integration standards for communication infrastructure—thus driving the need for high density ASICs totaling $10 billion in procurement by 2018. Based on publically available reports, published data and Microsemi estimates, the company believes the total market for ITAR and trusted ICs developed for defense applications to be approximately $150 million.
