CEVA Announces Availability of Enhanced Voice Services (EVS) Codec for its Low Power Audio/Voice DSPs
Latest 3GPP VoLTE codec offers superb voice clarity and audio quality, requiring substantially higher DSP performance; Implementation for the CEVA-TeakLite family of DSPs offers best power and performance solution for smartphones and other mobile computing devices
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Feb. 23, 2015 -- CEVA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CEVA), the leading licensor of DSP and IP platforms for cellular, multimedia and connectivity, today announced the availability of 3GPP's latest audio and voice codec for the CEVA-TeakLite family of DSPs. Backwards compatible with AMR Wideband (AMR-WB) and Narrowband (AMR-NB) standards, the new Enhanced Voice Services (EVS) codec delivers outstanding voice and audio quality on any cellular network, but consumes substantially higher DSP resources compared to AMR Wideband to achieve this.
For existing licensees of the CEVA-TeakLite DSP family members, including the CEVA-Teaklite-III and CEVA-TeakLite-4 DSPs, EVS can be quickly added to their baseband processors, providing a significant upgrade to the voice experience. For new licensees, EVS is one of more than 100 audio and voice software packages available from CEVA and its partners for the CEVA-TeakLite DSP family, enabling rapid time-to-market for any audio/voice application.
"EVS represents a huge breakthrough in cellular voice communication, offering a new realm of possibilities in voice and audio applications while providing an unparalleled acoustic user experience on LTE and LTE-Advanced networks," said Moshe Sheier, director of product marketing, audio and voice at CEVA. "Our scalable CEVA-TeakLite family of DSPs offer outstanding performance, easily capable of implementing the bandwidth-intensive EVS codec together with multi-microphone noise reduction and echo cancellation algorithms."
"The super-wideband capable Enhanced Voice Services codec significantly increases the challenges for noise reduction and echo cancellation algorithms," said Edwin Zuidema, Marketing Director Speech and Sensing for NXP Software. "Our full-band optimized LifeVibes VoiceExperience software running on the CEVA-TeakLite family of DSPs delivers clear and natural voice calling in any environment, and the combination of LifeVibes and EVS on CEVA's audio/voice DSP offers a compelling solution for any smart device use case."
