Microsemi's Innovative TimeProvider 5000 System Supports Phase Synchronization Needed for LTE Advanced and Small Cell Deployments
The TimeProvider 5000 Supports the New ITU-T G.8275.1 Telecom Profile for Phase Synchronization Enabling a Cost-effective Deployment of Next Generation Services
ALISO VIEJO, Calif. -- Feb. 25, 2015 -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced its award-winning TimeProvider® 5000 Software Release 2.2, adding ITU-T G.8275.1 phase synchronization profile support with a software upgrade and license key. The new software release now supports Synchronous Ethernet and the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) phase profile. The PTP phase profile will help Microsemi customers use the available spectrum more efficiently and deliver a more reliable network. Microsemi's innovative TimeProvider 5000 is deployed in over 200 networks worldwide for PTP frequency synchronization and can now support the new phase synchronization PTP profile.
The software upgrade is for both Microsemi's extensive installed base and new network deployments and allows operators to leverage and extend their installed base of PTP grandmaster clocks to support the new ITU Telecom profile for phase synchronization.
According to the Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA), 79 carriers in total have launched, have deployed or are trialing LTE Advanced technologies in their networks. The GSA also said 21 operators have launched LTE Advanced carrier aggregation in 14 countries.
"Microsemi is the world's standard for time and this reflects our commitment to timing solutions from the network core to the edge," said Phil Mann, general manager and vice president of Microsemi's frequency & timing division. "As new technologies and standards are deployed such as LTE Advanced and small cells, we are committed to providing our customers solutions that will leverage their existing network investment to meet their evolving needs."
With full support of the new ITU-T G.8275.1 phase profiles across its TimeProvider 5000 core and TimeProvider 2000 series edge PTP grandmaster clocks, Microsemi enables wireless operators to seamlessly migrate their networks forward to assure high quality of service for LTE-A and small cell deployments. Preparing networks for phase synchronization requires engineering synchronization and timing from the end points back, and Microsemi's flexible PTP solutions portfolio along with its TimePictra® synchronization management platform provide operators with essential synchronization infrastructure to enable LTE-A and small cell services.
