Compelling OTN Solutions for 200G and 400G to be Demonstrated by Altera on its Arria 10 FPGAs at OFC 2015
Standards-Based OTN Solutions Reduce Time-To-Market for Optical Equipment Manufacturers and High-Capacity Transport Networks with a Path to 1Tb
LOS ANGELES, March 23, 2015 -- OFC 2015 -- Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) is demonstrating at OFC 2015 two products for optical transport networks designed with Arria® 10 FPGAs: the Altera SoftSilicon® 400G Transponder/Muxponder (TPO516) and the Altera SoftSilicon single-chip 20-channel any-rate mapper (TPOC226) with segmentation and reassembly (SAR). The offerings reduce complexity for system architects designing for OTN-based transport and switching, data center interconnect, and mobile fronthaul (CPRI over OTN) solutions. Based on Altera's 20 nm Arria 10 FPGAs – and offering a migration path to 14 nm Stratix® 10 FPGAs – SoftSilicon FPGA-based solutions provide optical equipment manufacturers with standards-based OTN solutions beyond 100 Gigabit/s (B100G). Offered as platforms featuring an FPGA with fully integrated IP, the products, which are now available for customer designs, enable equipment manufacturers to streamline their development efforts as they move towards high-capacity transport.
OFC attendees can visit Altera in booth #413 during the exhibition dates of March 24-26 to learn more about Altera's market-leading OTN solutions that can help them achieve 200G, 400G and up to 1Tb throughput in a single device. Those not attending OFC can learn more by going to https://www.altera.com/solutions/industry/wireline/applications/transmission/wil-optical-transport-network.html or contacting their local Altera sales representative.
"Altera OTN SoftSilicon products running on Arria 10 FPGAs come at a perfect time for network equipment manufacturers who have found ASSPs (application-specific standard products) limited in their flexibility and long-term roadmap," said Mutema Pittman, senior manager of the OTN strategic marketing team, Altera. "Our latest SoftSilicon products offer a well-defined set of features, pin-out, and software APIs validated on reference hardware, providing the shortest time-to-market, and because the solutions have been built and validated on systems that closely resemble the target application, they help minimize the development risk for system providers."
Altera in Optical Transport
Altera's SoftSilicon Optical Transport Network (OTN) solutions provide the optimum level of integration and flexibility while addressing increased development costs and the time-to-market challenges inherent in complex transport applications. Equipment makers can simplify their designs by providing fully integrated, tested intellectual property (IP) solutions for transponder, muxponder, and packet-optical transport system (P-OTS) applications to meet network requirements. Customers can take advantage of the Altera TPO516 along with IEEE 802.3bj FEC to target data center interconnect applications.
