prpl Foundation Strengthens Board with New Members from Broadcom, Lantiq, Qualcomm
Five Additional Companies Also Join the Foundation
SANTA CLARA, CA, May 7, 2015 – The prpl Foundation, an open-source non-profit foundation focused on enabling next-generation datacenter-to-device portable software and virtualized architectures, today announced that global technology leaders Broadcom Corporation, Lantiq (an Intel company), and Qualcomm Atheros, Inc. (a Qualcomm Incorporated company), further affirmed their commitment to the prpl Foundation by appointing representatives to the Foundation’s Board of Directors. In addition, the Foundation recently welcomed new Foundation members CUPP Computing, Elliptic Technologies, Imperas Software, Kernkonzept and Seltech.
“The Internet of Things is about building smarter, secure connections between people, places and things around the world,” said prpl Foundation President Art Swift. “Participation on the Foundation’s Board of Directors and at the working group level by global technology leaders such as Broadcom, Lantiq and Qualcomm Atheros is allowing us to map the future of secure connectivity for enterprise, consumer and embedded applications.”
Newcomers to the prpl Foundation’s Board of Directors will participate at the executive level and appoint representatives to the Technical Steering Committee and to multiple active and planned working groups (called prpl Engineering Groups, or PEGs). These include a Security PEG, a prplWrt PEG, and a QEMU (Quick Emulator) PEG. Platinum membership in the prpl Foundation also allows leading companies to appoint or nominate members to each of these groups.
“The world is moving toward a new era of connectivity that will only succeed if devices, data centers and other points in between can easily communicate,” said Dan Marotta, Broadcom executive vice president and general manager, Broadband and Connectivity Group. “We’re happy to join this important effort to ensure connectivity across a variety of platforms in enterprise, consumer and industrial applications.”
“Lantiq develops and delivers technologies that provide high value to carriers around the world. Quality and security are key to this effort,” said Lantiq Chief Executive Officer Dan Artusi. “We feel the development of an open and secure hardware-based virtualization framework for the Internet of Things will mark a significant step forward in the rush to deploy the IoT and look forward to participating in this effort.”
“The Internet of Everything is about bringing intelligence to everyday devices, expanding our ability to interact with them in creative ways,” said Matt Grob, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “By participating actively in the prpl Foundation, we’re helping developers expand their reach in this exciting new frontier.”
The prpl Foundation continues to seek members at all levels, including Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Individual/Academia members. In addition to Broadcom, Lantiq and Qualcomm Atheros, existing members include Cavium, Ikanos, Imagination Technologies, Ineda, Ingenic, and more.
