Allegro DVT Launches Industry's First HEVC Scalable Extension (SHVC) Compliance Streams
Grenoble - January 18, 2016 -- Allegro DVT, the leading provider of video codec compliance test suites and hardware IPs, announces the immediate availability of HEVC Scalability Extension (a.k.a. SHVC) test suites to help manufacturers developing SHVC compliant decoders validate the conformance of their implementation with the SHVC standard.
Allegro DVT's SHVC test suites leverage the company's extensive experience and industry proven technology in audio/video compliance test streams. They cover HEVC Scalable Main 10 Profile and comprise multiple test sets to check spatial, bit-depth, color gamut scalability as well as various combinations of these scalability features.
SHVC can be used in broadcast environments or in any "one to many" communication scenario such as video conferencing where multiple versions of the same video content are required to meet the capabilities of different receivers. The SHVC codec offers a way to reach all devices simultaneously with far greater efficiency than simulcast. This is achieved through a multi-layer coding approach that encodes the content into a base layer (BL) and an enhancement layer (EL) bitstreams.
Pierre Marty, CEO of Allegro DVT, commented: "We expect SHVC to play a major role especially in the context of the upcoming ATSC3.0 standard which will introduce new features such as 4K/Ultra-HD, HDR (High Dynamic Range) and support for mobile devices. The layered SHVC coding can be utilized to achieve backward compatibility and less bandwidth congestion in the backbone network while ensuring efficient support for portable and mobile devices. The release of these industry's first SHVC test streams proves again Allegro DVT’s leadership in audio/video compliance streams".
