Virtual Silicon Increases Focus On Interface IP
SUNNYVALE, Calif., - September 16, 2002 - Virtual Silicon Technology Inc., a leader in semiconductor intellectual property (SIP) today announced that they have implemented a re-shaping of their operations to bolster resources for the company's growing interface IP product line. The interface product line is comprised of application specific I/O, basic I/O and PLL, and provides complete solutions for high-speed communication and connectivity.
"Great companies focus not on where they can be good, but where they can be great. Virtual Silicon has recorded strong bookings and revenue growth in recent quarters, largely on the strength of our interface products." said Tim Unger, CEO & president of Virtual Silicon. "Our new organization positions the company to be the acknowledged leader in interface IP and adds synergy to our standard cell and memory product lines."
A huge obstacle facing most SoC designers today is moving data on and off chip at speeds above 1 GHz. In addition, a growing number of industry standards, such as DDR, USB, QDR, PCI, Hypertransport and SPI-4, have emerged to address the specific requirements of the end application. Virtual Silicon's expertise in both deep sub-micron silicon technology and high-speed circuit design makes the company uniquely qualified to provide complete solutions to these design challenges.
Virtual Silicon supports the leading foundries in the world including UMC, TSMC and 1st Silicon, offering a total solution of process specific IP including standard cells, SRAM and ROM compilers and instances as well as NVM. The company will continue an aggressive development effort in 90 nm products at multiple foundries.
Based on a very successful Series C fund raising completed in January of this year, Virtual Silicon has significant cash reserves to sustain operations into 2005. "With little sign of a significant improvement in the economy on the horizon, this realistic and proactive response allows us to implement our strategy and at the same time extend our runway out as far as possible." said Unger. After the restructuring, the company will have reduced US operations by roughly 20 percent.
