GL Communications Inc. selects Achronix Speedster22i FPGAs for 10/40/100G PacketExpert
Santa Clara, Calif., March 22, 2016 – Achronix Semiconductor Corporation today announced that GL Communications Inc. selected the Achronix Speedster22i HD1000 FPGA for its 10/40/100G PacketExpert™ Ethernet tester, a hardware-based test instrument suited for the installation, troubleshooting and comprehensive testing of Ethernet/IP networks.
The Speedster22i devices are the only FPGAs shipping in production that contain embedded hard IP targeted at high-performance wireline networking applications including 10/40/100G Ethernet, Interlaken, PCI Express Gen3 and DDR3 controllers. Hardening key interface IP in the Speedster22i devices frees up a substantial portion of the programmable logic fabric, increasing the effective capacity of the FPGA and reducing the overall power consumption. Additionally the embedded hard IP in the Speedster22i HD FPGAs eliminates the cost of purchasing, integrating, closing timing and testing the functions that are required when soft IP is used. The Speedster22i family is built on the Intel 22nm Tri-Gate technology and offers devices with densities up to 1 million effective look-up-tables (LUTs) and 86 Mbits of on-chip memory.
“GL Communications selected Achronix because the Speedster22i devices were the best FPGAs for our PacketExpert™ Ethernet testers for both cost and time-to-market requirements,” said Mr. Jagdish Vadalia, Director of Product Development. “The embedded hard IP cores reduces our overall cost and development time as debugging is not required for these cores – they just work. Equally important, we received excellent support from the Achronix’s knowledgeable and resourceful technical support staff.”
“We are delighted to be partnering with GL Communications,” said Steve Mensor, Vice President of Marketing, Achronix Semiconductor. “GL Communications has shown that the HD1000 FPGA with embedded hard IP and superior FPGA architecture combined with best-in-class tools is the preferred solution for wireline applications that require FPGA flexibility for the highest performance requirements.”
PacketExpert™ can be used as a comprehensive Ethernet-IP Tester performing all the network validation tests over electrical and optical interfaces, or used as an advanced WAN Emulator by emulating a WAN (wide area network) link between two local networks to test end-point devices and applications.
PacketExpert 1G™, 10G™, and very soon 10/40/100G™ from GL Communications support a variety of testing needs including: individual links/switches; local Ethernet/IP networks (LAN); end-to-end testing of Wide Area Networks (WANs); MPLS networks; QoS testing of triple-play services (Voice, Video, and Data); and much more. These test sets are available in the form of a tablet-inspired handheld platform as well as 1U rackmount platforms to suit both field and lab testing. This test tool demonstrates enhanced performance when compared to other standard Ethernet test tools currently available in the market.
