Autotalks License and Deploy CEVA DSP for Mass-Market V2X Chipset
CEVA-XC DSP powers Autotalks' second-generation V2X communications solution supporting concurrent IEEE802.11p and IEEE802.11a/b/g/n/ac operation
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and KFAR NETTER, Israel -- April 27, 2016 -- CEVA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CEVA), the leading licensor of signal processing IP for smarter, connected devices, and Autotalks Ltd., the world's leading provider of integrated V2X chipsets, today announced that Autotalks has licensed and deployed the CEVA-XC communication DSP in its upcoming second-generation Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) chipset.
V2X technology connects vehicles to other vehicles (V2V), infrastructure (V2I), motorcycles (V2M) and pedestrians (V2P) within wireless range for safety and mobility applications, such as sharing advanced warnings of unseen hazards or coordinating with traffic signals to minimize queuing. The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) is expected to publish a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) mandating the installation of V2X in new light vehicles.
Autotalks' second-generation V2X processor supports state-of-the-art mobility-optimized IEEE802.11p communication, operating on the 5.9GHz band allocated for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications, along with IEEE802.11a/b/g/n/ac functionality. The CEVA-XC communications processor enables Autotalks to implement the PHY layer and specific elements of the MAC layer on the DSP, allowing scalable V2X use cases. The implementation supports concurrent dual-channel operation, either two different IEEE802.11p channels or IEEE802.11p and IEEE802.11a/b/g/n/ac, as well as optimal IEEE802.11p diversity operation. The solution outperforms all SAE2945/1 requirements. The CEVA-XC also incorporates an innovative power scaling unit (PSU) that enables application-specific low power modes, ensuring the chipset is finely tuned for power efficiency.
Amos Freund, VP R&D at Autotalks, commented: "We are pleased to announce CEVA as a key technology partner for our second-generation V2X chipset. The CEVA-XC DSP enables us to deliver best-in-class performance, manifested in superior performance in high-mobility, and even greater functionality and power efficiency in a highly cost-effective V2X communications solution. IEEE802.11a/b/g/n/ac inclusion enables new use-cases such as dealership firmware update, vehicle-to-home synchronization and even meshes connectivity."
Eran Briman, vice president of marketing at CEVA, commented: "V2X communication is one of the hottest technology fields in automotive safety today and Autotalks are at the forefront, both in terms of innovation and the push towards mass-market deployment. Our CEVA-XC is the ideal communication engine on which to design their chipset solution, delivering the performance and reliability required for such a critical application, and the flexibility to support software upgrades in the field for years to come."
