Toshiba Announces Immediate IP Subsystem Availability of PCI Express and DDR3 for Custom LSI Platforms
TOKYO-- May 31, 2016 --Toshiba Corporation's (TOKYO:6502) Storage & Device Solutions Company announced today the immediate availability of PCI Express *1 and DDR3 SDRAM *2 IP subsystems *3 developed in conjunction with Northwest Logic, a leading provider of high-performance, easy-to-use, silicon-proven PCI Express and Memory Interface IP cores. These subsystems are available on custom LSI platforms, including ASIC and FFSATM *4.
The PCI Express cores include standard-compliant, full-featured PCI Express 3.0/2.1/1.1 Cores and high-performance, scatter-gather DMA *5 Cores and Drivers (Linux® & Windows®). The DDR3 SDRAM Controller Core provides high-bandwidth support with a full set of optional add-on cores which include ARM® AMBA® AXI *6, multi-port, reordering *7, ECC *8 and memory test support.
“We are excited to collaborate with Toshiba to provide complete PCI Express and DDR3 SDRAM controller + PHY IP subsystems for the Toshiba FFSA™ and ASIC platforms. These pre-verified IP subsystems enable chip designers to quickly create high-performance, high-complexity SOC designs,” said Brian Daellenbach, CEO of Northwest Logic.
“By combining the IP and expertise of our two companies we are in a strong position to offer robust, value added IP subsystem solutions and expert support to our customers enabling products to be brought to market quickly,” said Yukihiro Urakawa, Technical Executive of Toshiba.
Toshiba leverages comprehensive expertise from design to manufacture to offer a wide range of custom LSI solutions. FFSATM is an innovative, flexible custom LSI solution with pre-designed masters featuring configurable I/Os, SerDes, SRAMs and logic devices that can be configured according to customer requirements.
Going forward, Toshiba will continue to provide solutions that help customers to optimize their system design and achieve timely product development.
*1: Industry standard, I/O serial interface which is broadly used in computing system.
*2: One of DRAM industry standard used as main memory for PC and Server.
*3: The IP solution consists of IPs which is required to develop system LSI. It is designed to implement into high-speed interface subsystem easily.
*4: Technology enables Toshiba to develop integrated circuits with much lower development costs and much shorter development turn-around times by reducing the number of metal layers that must be customized.

*5: Direct Memory Access (DMA) is required for high-throughput data transfers and the DMA engine performs bursts transactions into and out of System Memory.
*6: On-chip interconnect specification of ARM Limited.
*7: The technology to change the order of memory operation to increase the efficiency of memory interface.
*8: Error Check and Correction. The technology to secure reliability of the data.
