AMPHION releases 2 extended performance variants of its highly successful HEVC/H.265 'Malone' video decoder IP core
BELFAST, N. Ireland -- March 06, 2017 -- Amphion Semiconductor today announced the immediate availability of 2 extended performance variants of its highly successful HEVC/H.265 ‘Malone’ video decoder core for SoC implementation. The 4Kp120 (CS8150) and 8Kp60 (CS8160) variants target higher frame rates and higher resolutions respectively and meet the needs of next generation applications in the digital TV and set top box markets in addition to the emerging VR/AR market. The cores are the latest in a family of video decoders that have been successfully implemented and silicon proven in many SoCs in volume production in a wide range of process nodes down to 28nm. Through a proven design process the cores provide optimal implementations in terms of silicon area and power consumption and exploit the scalable nature of the advanced architecture used to implement the IP.
“As our customers plan for their next generation products, they look to Amphion to provide the key video decoder IP cores that ensure they can stay ahead of the market in terms of video codec format, silicon area and power consumption,” stated Stephen Farson, CEO of Amphion. “With these 2 new family members we are meeting the need for increased frame rate and increased image resolution while minimizing the silicon area and power consumption overhead. The smaller silicon footprint leads to lower production costs for our customers and low power consumption gives cheaper packaging and less expensive cooling which result in an overall lowering of the total cost of ownership (TCO).”
The 4Kp120 (CS8150) and 8Kp60 (CS8160) variants bring to 6 the number of available cores in the Malone video decoder family that includes the popular / widely used / widely adopted CS8140 multi-format, multi-stream decoder supporting 12 industry standard formats in a single compact implementation.
About AMPHION
Amphion Semiconductor is a video codec silicon IP licensing company. We provide highly optimized, production proven solutions for many video codec formats including HEVC 4Kp60. The company was formed by a team of highly experienced engineers who had worked together for many years on video codec solution development for STB and DTV SoCs. The IP developed was acquired through a management buyout from a leading set top box chipset manufacturer. We provide solutions for both SoC and FPGA technologies and can customize our solutions to the needs of end applications.
