SST Announces Qualification of Smartbit OTP NVM Technology for ON Semiconductor's 110 nm CMOS Process
CHANDLER, Ariz. -- May 24, 2017 -- Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, through its Silicon Storage Technology (SST) subsidiary announced that ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ON), driving energy efficient innovations, has qualified SST’s Smartbit™ One-Time Programmable (OTP) Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) technology for SP110, ON Semiconductor’s 110 nm process node.
SST continues to expand support for its SmartBit OTP technology at many foundries and companies like ON Semiconductor. The addition of SST’s SmartBit OTP complements the high-reliability, IP-rich, digital and analog offering available in ON Semiconductor’s SP110 standard cell ASIC technology, which is manufactured in Gresham, Oregon.
“With qualification in SP110, SST and ON Semiconductor have reached the first important milestone in our relationship,” said Mark Reiten, vice president of Technology Licensing for SST. “The use of dynamic programming in our cutting-edge Smartbit OTP technology has met the high-reliability standard set by ON Semiconductor.”
SST’s SmartBit OTP solution significantly reduces production costs by implementing a high-density antifuse technology in standard logic Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) without additional process steps. The Smartbit bit cell design maximizes both device reliability and programming yield while offering faster programming and access time than other OTP technologies.
“ON Semiconductor provides a comprehensive portfolio of custom and standard solutions to help design engineers address their unique design requirements and challenges. We are pleased that SST’s SmartBit OTP technology is now part of our SP110 IP portfolio,” said Vince Hopkin, senior vice president of Digital and DC-DC Solutions.
